Build your career where ideas become real products. We're a UK steel manufacturer expanding our design capability and we're hiring an Engineering Design Technician Apprentice to join our friendly Cannock team.

The role

You'll support live projects from concept through to manufacture while studying towards a Level 3 Engineering Design Technician qualification.

Day-to-day, you'll:

  • Produce and update fabrication and assembly drawings (primarily in AutoCAD).
  • Read/interpret technical drawings and specs to ensure accuracy and compliance.
  • Prepare clear details for the shop floor
  • Work with engineers, project leads and production to resolve design queries.
  • Learn how designs translate into real components and structures on site.

What you'll bring

  • Real interest in engineering/design/manufacturing and how things are made.
  • Careful eye for detail and a practical, problem-solving mindset.
  • Basic CAD exposure (AutoCAD is a plus, training provided).
  • Team player with good communication and willingness to ask questions.
  • GCSEs (or equivalent) in Maths, English and Science at grade 4/C or above preferred.
  • Positive attitude and eagerness to learn.

Training & support

  • Study towards Level 3 Engineering Design Technician with off-the-job training.
  • On-the-job mentoring from experienced engineers and fabricators.
  • Structured skills plan with regular feedback and clear progression routes.
