We are seeking a dedicated and hardworking Grounds Person to join our grounds team based at Ipswich Town Football Club's training ground. The successful candidate will support in maintaining high-quality playing surfaces and surrounding grounds to meet the highest professional football standards.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist with pitch maintenance in preparing and maintaining all playing surfaces (natural and synthetic), including mowing, line marking, divoting, aerating, seeding, top dressing, and watering.
  • Ensure pitches are consistently presented to the highest standards for first-team training and academy use.
  • General Grounds & Facilities Maintenance, maintaining non-playing areas including walkways, training zones, car parks, landscaped areas, and other green spaces across the training ground.
  • Monitor the condition of drainage, irrigation, and lighting systems, reporting issues as required.
  • Support with pre-training setup including equipment placement, pitch inspections, and surface checks.
  • Liaise with coaching and support staff to ensure surfaces meet their requirements for sessions.
  • Safely operate and maintain groundskeeping machinery and tools in line with health & safety regulations.
  • Perform routine checks and minor repairs on equipment and machinery as needed.
  • Ensure all tasks are carried out in compliance with relevant health and safety legislation, club policies, and environmental guidelines.
  • Keep accurate records where required (e.g., chemical applications, maintenance logs).
  • Seasonal Work & Weather Response:
  • Assist in winter maintenance such as snow/ice clearance and frost protection measures.
  • Respond to adverse weather conditions to ensure pitch availability and safety.
  • Working with the grounds and wider teams across the Club.
  • Work closely with the Grounds Manager and the wider team to ensure consistent standards and a collaborative working environment.
  • Provide support and flexibility to meet the demands of the club, which may include working weekends, evenings, and public holidays.

Person Specification

Essential Knowledge and Experience:

  • Experience in grounds maintenance, preferably in a professional sports environment.
  • You will have a Level 2 qualification in Turf Management.
  • You will have a strong willingness to learn a range of new skills and build on existing abilities.

Desirable:

You will have p.a1, p.a2 and p.a6 spraying qualifications.

Essential Skills and Abilities:

  • Be able to multitask and assist other colleagues when needed.
  • You will be comfortable in a busy, fast paced environment.
  • You will have excellent communication skills and be confident communicating.
  • You will be organised, able to meet deadlines and keep calm under pressure.
