Job description

Summary of Role Purpose:

People Consulting is an integral part of KPMG's Management Consultancy practice and a growing part of our business. This team help to transform the performance of organisations by changing the way people are led, managed and developed. We do this by focusing on two key areas – delivering the people agenda on large scale, complex, change programmes and transforming the HR function by technology.

We help organisations to change and adapt to the environment in which they operate. Changes may be driven by decisions to digitise, to streamline, to pivot, to respond to new regulation or to harness the benefits of analytics or new technology. Or they may be driven by acquisition or disposal. Whatever the reason, our clients are continually re-designing parts of the organisation, and that's where we come in.

Description of the role

We are looking for experienced management consultants who can lead workstreams on complex learning programmes. You will be expected to

  • Lead large scale, complex consulting engagements with a Learning focus
  • Identify opportunities for learning alongside other programmes of work (e.g. transformations, change) and continuing to grow our propositions and junior team.
  • Increasing our capacity to support Advisory strategy through exceptional delivery on learning projects, supporting and developing team members, broader business development capacity and increased visibility for what we can do in learning and where this can bolt into existing in-flight engagements
  • Scope, price and design our approach for a particular client (with support from a Partner or Director), and then to lead delivery of this work
  • Lead/support business development and grow revenues from the existing work portfolio
  • Use leading practice problem-solving methodologies to address client issues and structure projects
  • Work and collaborate with colleagues from other service lines such as technology, finance, customer, or analytics
  • Lead high-quality analysis that combines KPMG expertise and market insight with quantitative and qualitative analysis
  • Act as a main client interface, providing effective, credible, and timely communications with clients
  • Generate thought leadership, drive knowledge sharing and develop consulting skills within our team
  • Develop the team culture, inspiring and empowering team members and supporting their career development
  • Experience working in the Middle East or with clients in that region, and understanding local cultural and business practices, is a strong advantage.

Role dimensions:

Leadership and Management: KPMG's Financial Services People Consulting team comprises over 50 team members. You will be responsible for managing projects ranging in length from several weeks to multiple years and leading diverse small to large teams of consultants supported by sub-contractors and members of the client's own staff. You will deliver projects to agreed deadlines and budgets. The focus of this role is employing complex analysis to solve client problems in areas such as regulatory changes, disruptive technology, globalisation, changing customer needs, demographics and the environment and sustainability.

Stakeholder interaction and challenges: Your clients will normally be from Financial Services sector, particularly Banking and Insurance. The ability to develop strong client relationships with clients from diverse backgrounds and at all levels of seniority, including senior leaders, will be crucial. You will effectively communicate points of view and evidence that shapes client decision making. You will be required to regularly interact with Partners, Directors, and more junior colleagues within KPMG to source insight and expertise and to provide progress updates. You will also lead or support interactions with senior members of the client's leadership team.

Impact, Risk, Accountability and Governance: This a high-impact role. You will be responsible for developing robust problem-solving methodologies, structuring, and reviewing complex analysis, and delivering clear and effective deliverables. It is essential that you can work independently to clarify client issues and develop logical and implementable solutions to those issues, which are supported by robust analysis. You may be subject to additional background checks as part of a financial client's due diligence.

The Person:

Essential experience

We expect the successful applicant to have the following technical skills:

  • As this role is a Senior Manager role, and the consultant would be expected to lead and manage other consultants, we expect that candidates will have experience in consulting, ideally with a recognised professional services firm, or global consultancy. You are also expected to coach and develop consultants, supporting their career progression.
  • Extensive and deep experience in people development, including the design and delivery of large-scale, complex regulatory-driven learning programmes.
  • A strong appreciation of, and the ability to advise on, different approaches to manage People related change. Experience of the core techniques of leadership alignment, case for change, stakeholder identification and management, sequencing for the change programme, communication and engagement, impact assessment, and planning people transition. In the area of technology implementation, we would expect experience of user adoption approaches including training and awareness.
  • Versatility across both Learning and Change disciplines is highly valued. The strongest candidates will bring capability and confidence in both areas.
  • Regional expertise, particularly experience working with clients in the Middle East, is an advantage. Candidates should be able to apply nuanced regional understanding to project delivery.
  • Candidates will need to have the personal skills to influence, communicate with and work with senior clients, often at C-Suite or just below. They will need to have strong writing skills, be good at PowerPoint, confident with excel, and comfortable working face to face and through Teams.
  • We value a collaborative mindset. Everyone at KPMG is talented and ambitious, but we are a close-knit team that wins together, and we value people who will share knowledge and support colleagues.
  • Above all, we are looking for people with a strong sense of curiosity – we want people who are interested in their clients, care about their business, are motivated to research and understand them, and are prepared to work hard to make them a success. And we want people who are curious about our propositions and who continually updating themselves, researching the latest trends, and sharing these insights with colleagues and clients.
