Genomics England partners with the NHS to provide whole genome sequencing diagnostics. We also equip researchers to find the causes of disease and develop new treatments – with patients and participants at the heart of it all.
Our mission is to continue refining, scaling, and evolving our ability to enable others to deliver genomic healthcare and conduct genomic research.
We are accelerating our impact and working with patients, doctors, scientists, government and industry to improve genomic testing, and help researchers access the health data and technology they need to make new medical discoveries and create more effective, targeted medicines for everybody.
We are hiring a Genome Analyst to support the Diagnostic Discovery initiative here at Genomics England.
Diagnostic Discovery is focused on ensuring participants benefit from the latest advances in genomic science and technology. This is achieved through innovative, ongoing analysis of whole genome sequencing (WGS) data, with the aim of increasing diagnostic yield for individuals enrolled in Genomics England's research programmes.
This is an exceptional opportunity to work at the intersection of research and clinical practice, with a strong focus on variant interpretation and genomic data analysis within a collaborative, multidisciplinary team.
We are particularly interested in individuals with experience at the clinical-research interface who are passionate about advancing diagnostic insights for patients with rare conditions who currently remain undiagnosed.
Job DescriptionEveryday responsibilities include:
- Reviewing variants identified through research analysis of Genomics England data to support Diagnostic Discovery.
- Assessing gene/variant associations with rare disorders to guide Diagnostic Discovery analyses.
- Designing and performing customized analyses of the Genomics England data.
- Critically assessing outputs of internally developed analyses to bring about improvements.
- Support the review of rare disorder research findings identified through the Genomics England Research Network members and Discovery Forum.
Skills & experience for success
Ideally, we are seeking candidates with experience with genomic analysis in rare conditions who can demonstrate the skills and experience necessary to excel in the role of Genome Analyst
- Experience in a role where you undertake whole genome or exome sequencing analyses and interpretation of the genomic data in relation to rare disorders within a clinical or research setting.
- An understanding and focus on the clinical impact of these analyses.
- Detailed knowledge of human genomics, in particular rare disorders.
MSc/PhD in relevant discipline preferred.
Additional InformationPlease note that this role is not primarily a bioinformatics role. Please provide a clear description of your experience with scientific analysis and interpretation of genomic data and variants, particularly in the context of rare conditions.
Closing date for applications: Monday 1st December.
Salary from: £47,500

There is no expectation that people will return to the office full time unless they want to, however, some of our roles require full time on site attendance e.g., lab teams, reception team.
Our teams and squads have, and will continue to reflect on what works best for them to work together successfully and have the freedom to design working patterns to suit, beyond the minimum. Our office locations are: Canary Wharf, Cambridge and Leeds.
Onboarding background checks
As part of our recruitment process, all successful candidates are subject to a Standard Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check. We therefore require applicants to disclose any previous offences at point of application, as some unspent convictions may mean we are unable to proceed with your application due to the nature of our work in healthcare.
