Visiting Lecturer – Learning Disability and Mental Health Nursing

Hourly Paid, Variable hours (Hours will be flexible and determined on an individual basis)

Pay: £ £53.13 per hour (plus holiday pay per hour), dependent on type of work undertaken

(The hourly pay rate is a comprehensive "scheduled teaching hour rate" which includes payment for more than one hour's teaching in recognition of additional work undertaken associated with the teaching commitment, typically this equates to a payment of 1.5 hours additional hours for each hour of teaching.)

We are seeking an NMC registered, experienced academic to join our ambitious team within the Department of Allied Health & Nursing. You will have extensive knowledge of the requirements of learning disability and or mental health nursing and be able to evidence of your own expert skills in practice. It will be beneficial for applicants to have experience of academic practice in learning and teaching.

The primary role of the postholder is to perform teaching duties within the designated department. However, the postholder may be required to undertake other related duties. The following are typical examples of activities, some or all of which may be required within the number of hours, and level of contract offered:

  • To prepare materials to teach and assess, as part of a semester, in the areas of knowledge appropriate to the aims of provision within the School and where appropriate, across other Faculties within the University.
  • To contribute to the examination of students in the areas of knowledge implied by the lecturer's qualifications and experience.
  • To contribute to the effective management of the modules on which the lecturer teaches, including marking assessed work of students, second marking of assessed work, examination invigilation and supervision and attendance at relevant examination boards as required.
  • To set and mark examination papers, projects and assignments
  • To ensure appropriate course administration and handling of data is carried out in a timely manner.
  • To have regular contact with module leaders, keeping them informed of progress.
  • Any other reasonable duties as may be required by the Programme Leader, Director of Department or Faculty Dean.

The postholder will:

  • Support and work closely with our nursing students, enabling them to thrive whilst studying at Marjon;
  • Use your expertise in clinical practice to ensure students are workplace and employer ready;
  • Create memorable and immersive experiences for students in simulated practice.
