Heavy Fabricator/Welder – MIG, Cutting & Structural Fabrication
£16.50–£18.50 per hour | 40 hrs + overtime | Monday–Friday (08:00–16:30)
Location: UK (Workshop + occasional off-site work)
Job Type: Full-time
We are looking for a skilled heavy fabricator/welder to join our long-established, family-run engineering business. We design, manufacture, modify, and repair a wide range of heavy material handling equipment used across the UK and globally.
Working alongside our engineering teams, you'll help build, adapt, and improve bespoke lifting equipment—supporting safety, innovation, and engineering excellence.
Key Responsibilities
- Work from engineering drawings
- Fabricate to 3mm tolerances
- Cut, modify, and rework existing heavy steel components
- MIG welding on heavy steel fabrications
- Operate cutting/burning bottles
- Fabricate large assemblies using brace methods
- Replicate and manufacture new parts from worn/damaged originals
- Carry out occasional off-site fabrication using minimal equipment
- Maintain fabrication workshop, plant equipment, and machinery
- Manage workshop consumables
- Follow open/close procedures and complete accurate timesheets
What You Must Be Able to Do
- Confident with MIG welding
- Use cutting/burning equipment
- Heavy fabrication (not light sheet metal)
- Grind, fettle, and prep steel
- Work independently and plan your own workload
- Work safely, follow procedures, and deliver high-quality output
- Operate as an effective team player
Preferred (Not Essential)
- TIG welding experience
- Transferable mechanical/engineering skills
- Ability to assist across different departments
Pay & Progression
- £16.50 per hour starting rate (probation)
- Progression to £18.50 per hour for top-line fabricators
- Pay increase timeframe: as early as a few weeks, up to 6–12 months depending on performance
- Average holiday pay
- Enhanced holiday entitlement (1 extra day every 2 years, up to 5 days)
- Annual £1,000 bonus
- 40 hours per week + overtime opportunities
- Flexible working week when required
- Certified training across multiple departments
Candidates not meeting full standards will receive full training and development before reaching the top pay band.
