London Area, United Kingdom Rutherford Full time £1,000,000 - £1,500,000 per year

Our client, a top-tier US law firm, is seeking a Leveraged Finance Associate to join its high-performing, cohesive banking team in London. This is an exciting opportunity to work on complex, cross-border financing structures for top-tier clients, including banks, debt funds and private equity sponsors. Known for its market-leading finance practice, the firm provides a supportive and dynamic culture where associates can thrive, develop their technical skills and gain unparalleled exposure to sophisticated transactions.

Position Overview

As a Leveraged Finance Associate, you will play a central role in structuring, negotiating and executing complex sponsor-side financing arrangements across Europe and beyond. The team is renowned for advising on leveraged buyouts, refinancings and direct lending transactions for global private equity clients. You will gain unparalleled exposure to cross-border dealmaking, often coordinating English and New York law elements, and working directly with high-profile sponsors such as Advent, Bain, KKR, EQT and Permira.

Responsibilities

  • Advise leading private equity sponsors and portfolio companies on leveraged buyouts, take-privates, refinancings, and recapitalisations.
  • Draft, review, and negotiate documentation for senior, subordinated, unitranche, and high-yield debt facilities.
  • Coordinate multi-jurisdictional financings (UK, US, Luxembourg, Netherlands, Jersey), working closely with the firm's New York and European offices.
  • Support clients through all stages of a transaction, from structuring and due diligence to closing and post-deal refinancings.
  • Collaborate with partners and cross-practice teams (private equity, capital markets, restructuring) to deliver fully integrated advice.
  • Maintain strong relationships with sponsor clients and lenders, providing strategic, business-focused guidance on financing flexibility and risk management.

Requirements

  • Qualified to practice law in England & Wales.
  • 2–8 years' PQE gained within a leading international or US law firm.
  • Strong experience in leveraged finance, with exposure to private credit, sponsor-led buyouts, public bids and refinancings.
  • Solid technical drafting and negotiation skills, with a proactive and solution-oriented approach.
