Ground Worker/Labourer

Basic salary starting at £30,000 - £32,000 plus voluntary overtime for 40 hours pw Mon-Fri. Annual working away bonus based on length of service. Average Overtime approx.: £10,000 - £12,000 per annum

ABOUT THE JOB

As a Ground Worker, you'll play a vital role in preparing and executing groundworks for the installation of garage equipment, including vehicle lifts and MOT bays. You'll ensure that all groundwork is completed to the highest standard, adhering to health and safety guidelines and meeting project deadlines.

In this role you will work with a Lead Engineer, and alongside our mechanical and electrical Engineers. You will be supported by one of our own Project Managers. An independent work ethic and communication skills are important.

The main responsibilities will be undertaking and managing the civil works and grounds works for projects in franchise vehicle dealer workshops. This will include carrying out the installation of new recesses (including cutting, excavation, formwork/permanent shuttering, concrete pouring), plus remedial work to tile or resin floor finishes. All of our teams are directed by competent project managers who have civil and grounds works experience.

Key Responsibilities

• Excavation and Site Preparation: Carry out digging, levelling, and preparation of sites for equipment installation.
• Concrete Work: Lay and finish concrete bases for vehicle lifts, ramps, and other equipment.
• Drainage and Cabling: Assist with the installation of drainage systems and routing of cables for equipment functionality.
• Equipment Installation Assistance: Work alongside installation engineers to ensure seamless integration of equipment into prepared sites.
• Health and Safety Compliance: Follow all safety protocols, including correct use of PPE and adherence to company and site-specific safety regulations.
• Team Collaboration: Work closely with the wider Ground Works and Installation teams to deliver projects on time and within scope.
• Problem Solving: Identify and resolve any groundwork issues that may arise during installation.

REQUIRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

• Experience as a Ground Worker.
• Good knowledge of groundwork techniques, including excavation, levelling, and concrete laying.
• Ability to read drawings and good attention to detail – vital for interpreting site plans accurately and ensuring groundwork is executed to specifications.
• Knowledge of health and safety regulations on construction sites.
• Ability to operate groundwork tools and machinery (CPCS or NPORS certification is advantageous).
• Strong teamwork and communication skills.
• A valid UK driving licence (essential).
• Keen eye for detail and get it right first time approach.
