The Opportunity

Nigel Wright are delighted to be partnering with ScS to appoint their new Technology Director

First established in 1984 as a family owned general home furnishing store and HQ in Sunderland, ScS has grown to be one of the UK's leading and best-loved sofa specialists. Today they have nearly 2000 colleagues and over 95 retail stores and 9 distribution centres across the UK. In January 2024, ScS were formally acquired by Poltronesofà a family owned European market leader with over 310 stores. Since the acquisition ScS have been investing in their product range and store refurbishment and have ambitious plans to grow.

The Technology Director will be responsible for leading the organisations technology strategy, architecture and operations, ensuring systems enable growth, efficiency and strong financial governance. This role will be responsible for helping own the delivery, optimisation and long-term roadmap of Microsoft Business Central as their business platform.

: Hybrid - 2-3 days in Sunderland will be required

Key Accountabilities

  1. Strategy & Leadership

  2. Develop and deliver a technology strategy that supports business objectives and future scalability

  3. Define the enterprise architecture and ensure systems and data align to a coherent roadmap
  4. Leadership of the technology team, creating high-performance standards and a strong service culture

  5. Act as a senior advisor to the executive team on digital and modernisation initiatives

  6. Microsoft Business Central

  7. Ensure the BC platform is stable, well governed and able to scale

  8. Lead continuous improvement
  9. Manage partners to deliver value and quality

  10. Ensure strong change control, documentation and user adoption

  11. Technology Operations & Infrastructure

  12. Oversee secure, resilient and cost-efficient IT operations across networks, telephony, cloud and devices

  13. Own cyber security, risk management and compliance
  14. Ensure reliable service delivery with clear SLAs, incident management and escalation processes

  15. Enable the business to use data for decision making and operational control

  16. Projects & Change Delivery

  17. Lead the technology project portfolio

  18. Drive digital transformation initiatives, automation and workflow optimisation
  19. Partner across Finance, Operations, Sales and People to embed process improvements

Required Role Specific Knowledge, Skills and Experience

  • Proven experience as a Technology Director, IT Director, CTO or equivalent senior leadership role
  • Strong leadership presence - building high performing teams and the ability to set standards and lead accountability
  • Commercially aware: the ability to align technology decisions to cost and ROI
  • Dynamics BC experience would be preferred and highly advantageous
  • Strong vendor and stakeholder management skills
  • Clear communicator who can translate complexity into business impact
  • Detail orientated with a commitment to a high level of data integrity and accuracy
