The Kingfisher MBU Outreach service offers support to all women who required an admission to the Kingfisher Mother and Baby Unit, due to moderate to serious mental illness in the perinatal period. The perinatal period is a crucial and vulnerable time for woman. We know as many as one in five women experience post or ante natal depression, anxiety or in some cases severe mental illness such as psychosis during pregnancy or in the first year after childbirth. The purpose of the MBU is to keep the Mother & Baby together, whilst treating the mother's mental health and promoting or maintaining attachment and bonding.
The Kingfisher MBU Outreach service aims to support women with the transition from the MBU to the home environment, alongside the woman's designated community support network. Transition starts already during the admission and continues for up to three months after discharge.
We aim to create a positive and supportive community to promote the mother's recovery and baby's development. The long-term benefits of this kind of specialist care offers early help and support to parents for them to build a healthy bond with their children and improves outcomes for the child.
We are looking to recruit a Band 6 Perinatal Specialist Nurse for the MBU Outreach Team who is committed to supporting women at a very vulnerable time in their life, to support both Mother and baby for the best possible outcomes.

You may be responsible for the supervision of junior staff and will receive support to learn how to gatekeep and triage our referrals and we encourage our staff to consider development opportunities.
The Perinatal service can offer training, building upon the skills you have to make you a Perinatal Specialist, if you are not one already.
