At Metro Bank, people come first – our culture is all about bringing the best out in our colleagues, and making sure everyone feels valued, respected, seen and included. We strongly believe in a diverse and inclusive workplace and to find the very best person for the job, we always look across a wide range of diverse communities.
What You Will Do
- Collaborate with a team of credit underwriters whose role is to underwrite Corporate Banking propositions from the Structured Finance team, including Net Asset Value lending, Private Equity sponsored lending, and Wholesale Funding - personally underwriting such propositions
- Coach colleagues in their responsibilities to deliver support to First Line of Defence colleagues the Metro Bank way
- Work collegiately with senior management team members, particularly the Director of Corporate Banking and Head of Structured Finance and their direct reports. Influence teams across Credit, and the wider Bank, coaching and developing less experienced colleagues
- Ensure acceptable lending asset quality is maintained when originating new customer exposures, and ongoing via individual and wider existing customer portfolio management activities, reacting appropriately to early warning signs. Ensure compliance with Metro Bank's relevant lending policies, standards & processes
- Maintain a positive, flexible, and pragmatic outlook in a pressured environment to help the bank achieve its growth objectives
- Inspire colleagues to lend the Metro Bank way, focusing on the 'who' element and having a deep understanding of repayment sources - as well as building on your own sectoral and product knowledge
- Operate with the responsibility of an individual personal Lending Authority. Present, analyse, and critique more complex lending propositions for review by higher authority holders – including the Lead Credit Partner, Head of Corporate & Commercial Credit and Credit Approval Committee
- Help to develop Credit Policy, Standards, and Procedures in a dynamic environment to enable the bank to support customers in a prudent way, including various Credit Risk based projects
And... we are a bank so risk is a part of everything we do. We love people who take responsibility, do the right thing for customers, colleagues and Metro Bank and have the courage to call out any concerns.
What You Will Need
- Understand the risks associated with your job and what that means for you, Metro Bank and all our stakeholders
- Commercial / Corporate Credit Underwriting expertise, including Net Asset Value lending and/or Private Equity sponsored lending and/or Wholesale Funding experience
- Experience working as a Credit Partner, Relationship Manager and / or distressed debt management / work-out
- Excellent stakeholder management & engagement skills
- Knowledge of Commercial lending and general banking and finance – including relevant legal concepts and issues
- Problem solving combined with excellent negotiation skills
- Wider commercial / corporate and economic knowledge and awareness
Our promise to you…
- We will make sure that you are well-rewarded by providing you with a competitive salary, discretionary annual bonus, and a wide range of benefits, including generous holiday allowance, attractive pension scheme, healthcare, life assurance, and a number of colleague discounts
- We will give you the training to ensure you succeed in your role and plenty of internal opportunities to progress your career (around 40% of our recruitment comes from internal promotions).
- We are also all about balance so most of our jobs offer the opportunity for hybrid working built around your role and home life, wherever possible.
Diverse teams really are the best teams. We know that candidates (especially women, research tells us) may be put off applying for a job unless they can tick every box. We also know that 'normal' office hours aren't always doable, and while we can't accommodate every flexible working request we are happy to be asked. So if you are excited about working with us and think you can do much of what we are looking for but aren't sure if you are 100% there yet… why not give it a whirl? Please note that sometimes we may close a job earlier for applications if we are inundated with amazing candidates.. Good luck
