Housing Officer – Tate Housing Nottingham CIC

Reports to: Operations Manager

Location: Nottinghamshire (various supported accommodation sites across Nottingham City

Hours: Full-time (37.5 hours per week)

Salary: £25,000–£30,000 per annum (depending on experience)

Job Purpose

To ensure the effective management of Tate Housing properties and tenancies, providing a high standard of housing management, tenancy sustainment, and property maintenance coordination. The Housing Officer will act as the first point of contact for tenants regarding tenancy issues, rent, repairs, and compliance, ensuring safe, well-maintained, and supportive living environments.

Key Responsibilities1. Tenancy Management

  • Conduct new tenant sign-ups, inductions, and explain tenancy/licence agreements.
  • Carry out regular property visits and tenancy checks.
  • Manage tenancy breaches, warnings, and enforcement actions in line with policy.
  • Support tenants in maintaining their tenancies and adhering to house rules.
  • Prepare and issue tenancy-related correspondence and reports.

2. Rent and Income Management

  • Monitor rent accounts, identify arrears, and agree repayment plans.
  • Work collaboratively with the Operations Manager and Finance team to prevent rent loss.
  • Liaise with housing benefit/universal credit departments to resolve payment issues.

3. Property and Repairs

  • Carry out property inspections and report maintenance or health & safety concerns.
  • Liaise with contractors and maintenance staff to ensure timely completion of repairs.
  • Maintain accurate property records, including inventories and compliance certificates (e.g., gas, electrical, fire safety).

4. Resident Engagement & Support

  • Work closely with Support Workers to identify tenant support needs and risks.
  • Encourage tenant participation in community and resettlement activities.
  • Mediate disputes between tenants and promote positive living environments.

5. Compliance and Record Keeping

  • Ensure all housing management activities comply with Tate Housing's policies and legal obligations.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date case notes, tenancy files, and system records.
  • Contribute to safeguarding, GDPR, and equality compliance.

6. Partnership Working

  • Build effective relationships with local authorities, probation, DWP, social care, and other partner agencies.
  • Represent Tate Housing at meetings where required.

Person Specification

Essential:

  • Experience in housing management, supported housing, or tenancy sustainment.
  • Knowledge of housing law, tenancy enforcement, and safeguarding.
  • Excellent communication, organisational, and IT skills.
  • Ability to work independently across multiple sites.
  • Empathy and professionalism when working with vulnerable tenants.

Desirable:

  • Level 3 qualification in Housing or equivalent experience.
  • Experience working with ex-offenders, young people, or individuals with complex needs.
  • Driver with access to a vehicle.
