Guest Producer - Daytime on 5 (Jeremy Vine, Storm Huntley & Vanessa)

We are looking for a guest producer to work on the expanding daytime output on 5 – which includes the Jeremy Vine, Storm Huntley and Vanessa programmes.

The successful candidate must have a great contacts book, a strong understanding of daytime debate shows and be full of ideas for guests for the programme.

They must also have first class journalism and production skills, a detailed knowledge of consumer affairs and the ability to work under pressure.

Key Responsibilities

  • Booking panellists to appear on the show – ensuring we have the right balance each day
  • Securing guests for consumer items and helping produce those items with either graphics or props
  • Chasing extra guests on the day, including news-making interviews with either politicians or people in the news
  • Briefing presenters and guests
  • Assisting the producer with all other elements of the show
  • Coming up with ideas for debates, writing scripts and graphics
  • Putting callers to air
  • Making decisions on legal issues, and taste and decency, in accordance with Ofcom regulations and the ITN compliance manual

Key Requirements

  • A great contacts book with a wide range of guests willing to participate in both debates and consumer segments
  • First class journalism skills and the ability to spot a good talking point
  • The ability to react rapidly to breaking news and quickly book suitable guests
  • Editorially creative and imaginative
  • Must have in-depth knowledge of news, current affairs and consumer affairs
  • Highly organised with the ability to prioritise workload efficiently and work quickly under pressure
  • Excellent communication skills (verbal/written/visual) and interpersonal skills
  • The highest standards of accuracy and attention to detail around often complex and controversial material
  • Experience of legal situations and understanding of media law and ITN Legal Compliance procedures
