Role description

This is a full-time on-site role for an Electrical Controls Designer and Division Lead based in Wellingborough.

The company provides 24/7 emergency repairs, complete preventative maintenance programs, design and replacement control systems, and high-quality upgraded drivetrain components from trusted global brands. MTS works with specific industries where uptime is critical, and NPT is costly, ensuring production continues efficiently and reliably with minimal downtime and predictable, controlled costs.

We are currently undergoing an expansion of our services towards a larger scope and region of supply. The official opening of our division in electrical controls & integrated systems as a stand-alone operation is being launched in 2026 alongside several additional services and offerings intended to provide a greater scale of opportunity and cost savings to both existing and new customers across the UK.

Role Description

This is a full-time on-site role for an Electrical Controls Designer and Division Lead based in Wellingborough. The role involves designing and developing electrical control systems as well as overseeing the division's operations and projects. Responsibilities include creating electrical designs, supporting instrumentation and electrical engineering needs, troubleshooting system issues, and developing and leading a team to ensure project deliverables are met efficiently. This role requires strong technical expertise and leadership skills to increase productivity while maintaining high standards of quality and safety.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree (BEng) or equivalent (BSE) with proven and qualified experience in Electrical Engineering or a related field.
  • Proficiency in Electrical Controls, Electrical Design, and Electrical Engineering.
  • Ability to design within British Standards and all code standards applicable within the UK industrial market.
  • Ability to analyse complex systems and provide solutions to electrical and control issues as an on-site liaison.
  • Familiarity with industrial control systems, PLC's, drives - both AC and DC, motors LV- AC/ DC, Servos and instrumentation is absolutely required.
  • Ability to provide all support details and documentation; drawings, operational instructions and procedures to the client.
  • Strong leadership and team management skills are desirable.
  • Commutable to our Wellingborough facility on a daily basis is mandatory for the success of the incumbent in their participatory leadership role.

Please do not apply if you are not capable of systems design or have proficiency in the use of CAD systems and/or design software for integrated electrical controls in an industrial environment, with compliance to all UK, EU and local codes and standards.

This is an on-site role in a full-time capacity, which will involve regional travel to sites and the ability to specify solutions with pricing and detailed delivery guarantees.

Training for our specific methods and means is provided and ongoing, however we will NOT provide training in CAD systems, design work or systems design criteria as explained above. This is a 'hit the ground running' role and will be compensated as such for the right candidate.

Salary is fully negotiable based on relevant experience and ability to undertake the role requirements immediately without further training. This is a highly progressive opportunity potentially leading to a divisional leadership role for the right candidate.

Contributory pension, 20 days holidays plus statutory, use of fleet vehicles.
