Traffic Management Technician - WMF2441e

Job description

Location: Barrow-in-Furness

Contract Type: Permanent

About this opportunity

Westmorland and Furness Council is seeking a committed and technically capable individual to join our Traffic Management Team in Barrow as a Traffic Management Technician. The Traffic Management Team plays a central role in designing and developing traffic management and road safety schemes and progressing both Temporary and Permanent Traffic Regulation Orders (TROs and TTROs). The team also provides technical support across the wider highways service and acts as a key point of contact for Councillors and the public.

This Technician role is essential to the successful delivery of various traffic and road safety projects. You will work closely with the team to translate design outputs into deliverable works instructions, ensuring that traffic management and safety improvements are implemented effectively. Your work will include supporting the consultation and legal processes required for Traffic Regulation Orders (TROs and TTROs), as well as assisting with the delivery of road safety projects.

The role requires a good understanding of traffic management principles, road safety, and national highway design standards. You will need to be confident in analysing data, using CAD and GIS-based software, and providing technical advice to colleagues and stakeholders. Strong communication skills, the ability to manage workloads to tight deadlines, and a proactive, flexible approach are all key to success in this role.

This is a fantastic opportunity to be part of a forward-thinking council that is committed to improving road safety and transport infrastructure. You will be joining a supportive team with a shared goal of delivering high-quality, community-focused projects. The role offers the chance to work on a wide range of schemes, from local safety improvements to major infrastructure projects.
