Senior Network Engineer

  • Hertfordshire: Hybrid x3 onsite

Overview:

We are seeking a
strategic and forward-thinking Network Engineer
to lead the design, governance, and evolution of our clients IT and network infrastructure. Working within a dynamic engineering environment, this role will play a key part in shaping the technology roadmap ensuring that infrastructure, security, and connectivity solutions are scalable, resilient, and aligned with business goals.

You'll act as a subject matter expert, guiding technical decisions, supporting transformation to cloud-based services, and driving best practices across the organisation's network and infrastructure landscape.

Role and Responsibilities:

  • Define and implement the
    strategic direction
    for the company's infrastructure and network architecture, ensuring alignment with business objectives and IT governance
  • Lead the design, deployment, and management of
    secure, resilient, and scalable infrastructure solutions
    across on-premises and cloud environments
  • Oversee
    network strategy and performance
    , including capacity planning, segmentation, and disaster recovery design
  • Develop and maintain
    standards, policies, and procedures
    for infrastructure, networking, and security operations
  • Drive the
    adoption of modern cloud and hybrid networking technologies
    within the Azure ecosystem
  • Collaborate with cybersecurity, operations, and project teams to ensure
    network and data security
    across all business locations
  • Lead or provide technical oversight for
    infrastructure transformation projects
    , including upgrades, migrations, and integration initiatives
  • Develop and review
    technical documentation
    , including architecture diagrams, standards, and Low-Level Designs (LLDs)
  • Advise senior management on
    emerging technologies
    and opportunities to enhance operational efficiency and resilience
  • Mentor and support IT team members to build capability and ensure consistent technical excellence

Essential Skills & Experience:

  • Proven experience in a
    senior infrastructure or network engineering
    role with strategic oversight responsibilities
  • Deep understanding of
    network architecture and design principles
    , including routing, switching, and segmentation
  • Strong knowledge of
    Microsoft Azure infrastructure and networking
    (VNets, NSGs, ExpressRoute, hybrid connectivity)
  • Experience developing and enforcing
    infrastructure standards and governance frameworks
  • Solid understanding of
    firewalls, VPNs, and network security fundamentals
  • Expertise in
    Active Directory
    ,
    Entra ID
    , and
    Microsoft 365
    administration
  • Strong communication and stakeholder management skills — able to translate complex technical requirements into business outcomes
  • Microsoft Azure Administrator (AZ-104) certification or equivalent experience

Desirable

  • Experience with
    Fortinet / FortiGate
    firewalls or other enterprise-grade security platforms
  • Knowledge of
    SD-WAN
    or advanced WAN technologies
  • Familiarity with
    Power Platform
    (PowerApps, Logic Apps, Dataverse) and
    Dynamics 365 Business Central
  • Experience with
    Windows Server
    ,
    Exchange
    , and
    PowerShell
    automation
  • Any
    Fortinet NSE certification
    (e.g., NSE 4+) or equivalent vendor certification is advantageous
