London Area, United Kingdom St Helena Government Full time

Location:
St Helena Island, South Atlantic

Contract:
2 years FTC available immediately

Salary:
£40k pa, depending on experience and qualifications, plus International Supplement

Enjoying unique lifestyle opportunities, St Helena Island is a self-governing overseas territory of the United Kingdom. Although better placed to develop economically and socially as a result of opening our international airport in 2017, we are not at the stage of self-sufficiency and therefore remain dependent on UK government aid. The 28-bed General Hospital in the capital, Jamestown, covers all areas of acute medical and surgical care.

You will collaborate to create a comprehensive approach to child and adolescent mental health care planning and delivery on the island.

With evidence-based therapeutic interventions you will take the clinical lead in assessing young people for neurodiverse conditions and in advising professionals and family on their care. You must also help manage the ADHD clinic and take the mental health lead for the 0-19 Service.

Producing Child and Adolescent Mental Health reports as required you will chair and attend meetings and conferences and, as part of the Mental Health Team, manage psychiatric inpatient admissions.

You must mentor student nurses and other health and social care students. Providing a mental health consultation and assessment service to other sectors, you must give professional evidence and reports in court if called.

A UK Registered Level 1 Mental Health Nurse or equivalent, you have substantial post registration experience. With the ability to identify improvement opportunities, you should be able to undertake independent clinical decision making. You will need a valid Driver's Licence Class A.

In addition, you must demonstrate our core values of fairness, integrity and teamwork and use your diverse expertise and experiences to ensure your time on the Island has the broadest benefit to St Helena. As an officer funded through the Technical Co-Operation Programme you will be expected to share your knowledge and skills beyond the workplace contributing to workforce, community and capacity development in St Helena.

Our Benefits Package Includes:

  • An International Supplement, full details of which are in the Overseas Vacancy Information at
  • Relocation Allowances, full details of which are in the Overseas Vacancy Information at
  • Annual Pension Contribution of 7.5% of salary
  • Annual Leave of 30 days per annum plus Public Holidays
