Embedded Systems Engineer - FPGA

Location:
Cambridge

Employment type:
Permanent

Ampere Recruitment is partnering with a leading European developer to identify an
Embedded Systems Engineer
to join a small, highly skilled R&D team focused on cutting-edge converter technology.

You'll be hands-on with both hardware and software: developing FPGA-based control systems, implementing real-time control algorithms, and contributing to the design and verification of advanced power electronics platforms.

This position would suit an engineer who thrives on variety and enjoys seeing projects through from concept to validation. You'll work across FPGA design, embedded software, and electronic hardware — with access to in-house testing facilities for both high-voltage and low-voltage systems.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop, verify, and maintain embedded systems for power electronics products
  • Implement and optimise FPGA designs using
    VHDL/Verilog
    on
    AMD/Xilinx
    platforms
  • Write embedded software in
    C/C++
    for real-time control
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams in Europe.
  • Design and test electronic circuits using standard lab equipment
  • Document and communicate design concepts clearly within a multidisciplinary environment

Qualifications & Experience

Essential:

  • Degree in
Electrical Engineering, Electronics, Computer Science, or Physics
  • Proven FPGA design experience (VHDL and/or Verilog) with
    Vivado/Vitis
    toolchains
  • Strong C/C++ programming skills for embedded systems
  • Hands-on circuit design, implementation, and bench testing experience
  • Excellent communication and documentation skills

Desirable:

  • Experience with
    Matlab/Simulink
    for real-time control
  • Understanding of
    power electronics
    fundamentals
  • Familiarity with
    Altium Designer
    (or similar EDA tools)
  • Scripting (Python, TCL) for build/test automation
  • Knowledge of
    Ethernet/EtherCAT
    or
    MODBUS/TCP
    communication interfaces
  • Experience with
    CI/CD
    tools (e.g. Jenkins)

Why Apply?

This is an opportunity to join a forward-thinking engineering group working at the forefront of
renewable power conversion technology
. You'll have technical autonomy, exposure to complex systems, and the ability to make a tangible impact on next-generation grid technologies.

If you're a motivated embedded engineer with a passion for both hardware and software development, Ampere Recruitment would love to hear from you.
