Impact
Trained Youth Helpers work directly with young people in St John Ambulance Cadet Units. By organising a mixed weekly programme, this role will support the learning and development of young people into the next generation of health citizens.
What you would be involved in? (responsibilities)
- Supporting the delivery of games, activities, and sessions during cadet meetings as part of our Youth programme.
- Collaborating with your unit youth team to create an inclusive, safe, and open environment in which young people are empowered to develop and learn life skills, including First Aid.
- Coordinating with colleagues in your youth team to maintain supervision of young people and ensure there are sufficient adult volunteers to meet supervision ratio requirements.
- Ensuring appropriate adjustments for inclusion and participation of all young people and adults are made within your unit.
- Supporting the Youth Leaders as required and sharing responsibility for the, safeguarding, duty of care, health, and wellbeing of young people within your unit.
- Create a culture of respect and awareness of diversity to ensure all young people and adults are treated equally and fairly as part of the unit.
You will need to have the following:
- Excellent interpersonal skills and personal motivation to work as part of a team and an infectious sense of enthusiasm and commitment.
- Passion for seeing young people succeed and a willingness to engage and support young people to learn life skills within St Joh
- Able to communicate effectively with young people.
- Willing to partake in the training so support the variety of activities involved in delivering a St John youth programme.
Development Opportunities
At St John Ambulance, Youth Helpers are given excellent opportunities to develop their skills and take on greater responsibility. With experience and training, they can progress to become youth leaders or explore other meaningful roles such as Community First Aider, Operational Support, or Community Engagement Volunteer. These pathways allow Youth Helpers to build confidence, leadership, and teamwork skills while continuing to make a positive impact within both the organisation and their local communities.
All training and uniform is provided by the organisation.
Unit sessions happen on Monday between 7pm and 9pm during term-time.
Screening Requirements
- Right to Volunteer check.
- Enhanced Child Workforce DBS.
- Two references.
