Band & Salary: (Band 3C) £55,596 - £65,966
Brief DescriptionThis role involves working across business groups and with external stakeholders to ensure station capacity and passenger safety aligns with policy, standards, and best practices. You'll be the primary contact for a Region, accountable for the team's analysis within it, driving long-term planning, prioritising schemes for investment and leading the development of station capacity policies. With a strong focus on mentoring and staff development, you will lead project teams to develop sound technical insight of complex issues through modelling and analytical analysis.

The Passenger & Station Analysis team is at the forefront of shaping safe, efficient, and future-ready railway stations. We provide expert guidance on pedestrian safety, technical design, and strategic planning across a diverse portfolio of projects. Our work involves detailed analysis, stakeholder engagement, and the development of robust solutions that ensure compliance, optimise performance, and support the successful delivery of major programmes.

What does the average day look like?
Each day in the Passenger & Station Analysis team is varied and impactful. You'll be involved in reviewing safety guidance, conducting technical analysis, and supporting the delivery of complex station enhancement programmes. Whether you're attending stakeholder meetings to discuss regional priorities, signing off safety assessments, or advising on design options, your work directly influences the safety, efficiency, and future-readiness of the rail network.
You'll collaborate across teams, manage resources, and contribute to strategic planning, all while promoting continuous learning and maintaining high standards. It's a fast-paced environment where your expertise helps shape the stations of tomorrow.
Who are we looking for?
We're looking for a highly experienced transport planning professional with Chartered status (TPP via CIHT or TPS) or equivalent expertise, ideally with a Master's in Transport Planning. You'll bring Associate Director-level experience in leading pedestrian modelling projects, deep knowledge of station design standards, and a strong grasp of rail industry planning cycles. With proven project management skills, stakeholder engagement, and team leadership, you'll be confident navigating complex technical challenges and evaluating innovative technologies. Excellent communication and analytical skills are essential, along with the ability to deliver high-quality outcomes in a fast-paced, client-focused environment.
Essential Criteria
Chartered professional qualification (TPP) through CIHT or TPS, or able to demonstrate equivalent experience.
Masters level in Transport Planning, or relevant experience.
Associate Director level experience, running a variety of pedestrian modelling projects (from small to large) as a project leader dealing directly with clients.
Demonstrable expertise and knowledge of standards relating to station design, capacity and evaluation criteria in order to certify station designs.
Strong understanding of the Rail Industry planning cycles and processes.
Proven ability to engage with internal as well as external customers and build collaborative relationships with stakeholders.
Can demonstrate good project management skills, having had responsibility for delivering projects within agreed timescale, budget constraints and quality expectations on projects/ programmes, dealing directly with clients.
Knowledge of passenger forecasting techniques used in the transport industry to understand and inform the gaps and risks associated with them when using this for station capacity analysis.
Familiar with innovations and technological advancements in the industry in order to test and evaluate new technologies in a railway environment.
Demonstrable experience of managing and developing teams.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills – written and verbal, including writing and reviewing reports, writing fee proposals and presenting to stakeholders.
Can demonstrate complex problem solving, decision making and analytical skills, especially where no set guideline exist.
