What's the Opportunity
Our recent growth has created an opportunity for an experienced Chartered / Senior Geotechnical Engineer to support our planning and engineering teams across our project portfolio. This role can be based in either our Cardiff or Bristol offices.
The role requires experience in specifying, managing, and interpreting geotechnical investigations, geotechnical assessments, and the specification and design of geotechnical solutions. Typically you will be involved in supporting our civil and structural disciplines on wider commissions within the business, both within the UK and internationally. As required, some projects (within the UK) are standalone ground engineering commissions, or in support of pre-planning design development planning consent. We operate a flexible hybrid working policy and the expectation is for you to be based in the office three days per week.
What you need to do to be effective in this role
Typical project deliverables include:
- Drafting of Ground Investigation Reports (geotechnical elements)
- Proof of concept checks.
- Minning legacy assessments and specification of mitigation measures
- ULS and SLS analysis for foundations
- Slope stability analysis
- Earthworks Settlement Analysis
- Earthworks Specifications
- Cutting design (including soil nails, anchors of rock bolts)
- Embankment design (including reinforced embankments)
- Drafting of Geotechnical Design Reports and Geotechnical Feedback Reports to CD622)
The skills and experience you need to have for this role
- You will have a proven project management track record within design and build environments, with excellent communication skills.
- You will have demonstrable experience and understanding of the needs and approaches to the engineering consultancy and design markets, including relationships with clients, work planning, and commercial management.
- Excellent communication skills and confidence to liaise and build relationships with clients to support effective work winning delivery.
- You will have excellent report writing skills with the ability to self-check and produce accurate work.
- You should have a degree in civil engineering or geology with a post graduate qualification in a geotechnical subject and hold chartered status as either a civil engineer or geologist.
- You will have a good understanding of EC7 and associated UK design codes.
- You will be experienced on the use of specialist geotechnical assessment and design software (experience of Rocscience and Geo5 software suites is preferable).
- You will have experience in the preparation of drawing work (experience of ARC GIS Software and CAD is preferable).
- You will have a willingness to travel on short assignments both within the UK and overseas and hold a valid UK driving licence.
