Job Description
About the Role
As a Cyber Security Engineer, you will be responsible for protecting digital assets, detecting and mitigating threats, and ensuring technical security controls are effective to ensure the confidentiality, integrity, and availability of systems and data. The role will use security software tools and collaborate with internal technical teams, external security consultants and cyber security services to assist maintaining and improve the Global Switch cyber security posture.
The role will work across the Group Information team but will report directly into the Head of Cyber Security. The role offers a dynamic and varied workload with a wide range of tasks and responsibilities being handled. The role will also provide support in audits globally across the business throughout the year and ensure Governance, Risk and compliance (GRC) is always at the forefront of everything we do within the information and information Security team.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and enforce security policies, procedures, and guidelines to ensure consistent protection across all systems and processes.
- Maintain comprehensive documentation including security configurations, incident reports, audit findings, compliance certifications, and risk assessments for regulatory and internal governance purposes.
- Provide strategic recommendations to align security practices with evolving regulatory requirements (e.g., GDPR, ISO 27001, NIST) and organisational objectives.
- Perform continuous vulnerability identification, prioritisation, and remediation across infrastructure, applications, and endpoints.
- Triage security alerts and events, applying containment, eradication, and recovery strategies to minimise impact.
- Act as the primary escalation point for Service Desk and Security Operations Centre (SOC) for high-severity incidents.
- Proactively monitor system performance and security logs, leveraging SIEM tools to detect anomalies and potential threats.
- Track and analyse KPIs, such as mean time to detect (MTTD), mean time to respond (MTTR), vulnerability closure rates, and audit.
About You
You're a technically skilled and security-minded professional with a passion for protecting digital environments. With a strong foundation in threat detection, vulnerability management, and regulatory compliance, you thrive in dynamic settings where precision and responsiveness are key. You're confident working across teams, managing incidents, and using advanced tools to monitor and improve cyber resilience. Detail-oriented and proactive, you bring a collaborative mindset and a commitment to safeguarding systems, data, and operations.
Key Requirements
- Strong proficiency in Azure and Microsoft 365 security features, including identity and access management, conditional access policies, and secure configuration of cloud resources.
- Hands-on experience with Microsoft Defender suite, including Defender for Endpoint, Defender for Office 365, and Defender for Identity, ensuring advanced threat protection across environments.
- Experience implementing Data Loss Prevention (DLP) strategies across endpoints, email, and cloud platforms to prevent unauthorised data exfiltration.
- Skilled in using and interpreting vulnerability scanning tools (e.g., Qualys, Tenable, Rapid7) to identify and prioritise security weaknesses.
- Demonstrated experience in designing and implementing technical security controls, such as network segmentation, encryption, MFA, and endpoint hardening.
- Experience securing OT (Operational Technology) environments, including ICS/SCADA systems, ensuring compliance with industry-specific standards.
- Awareness of global data protection regulations (e.g., GDPR) and security frameworks such as ISO 27001, PCI DSS, and SOC 2.
