About Vulcain Engineering
Vulcain Engineering, an international engineering consultancy, supports global industrial leaders in their transition to a more responsible and sustainable future. We support our customers in the design, construction, commissioning and operation of their complex infrastructure projects that will shape the world of tomorrow. With operations in 17 countries and employing over 6,000 staff worldwide, our business responds to the needs of our clients by delivering high-value engineering expertise tailored to our clients' most complex challenges.
In the UK, we have a key focus in the Nuclear sector, contributing to groundbreaking projects, such as Hinkley Point C (HPC) and Sizewell C (HPC)
The Position: Configuration Lead (Nuclear)
As a Configuration Lead, you'll engage across multiple disciplines, working closely with stakeholders to promote understanding and effective implementation of Configuration Management arrangements throughout the Sizewell C (SZC) project. You'll identify and address emerging risks, develop practical solutions, and simplify complex challenges to support sound decision-making. Through collaboration with diverse teams, you'll help define and maintain the project's technical baseline, enhancing both visibility and governance. As an integral part of SZC's technical delivery, you'll play a key role in ensuring the project's overall success.
In this role, you'll support the SZC Delivery Programmes by embedding strong configuration management practices — from planning and change control to status accounting and audit — ensuring they're effectively implemented and continuously enhanced
Some of the main responsibilities of the Configuration Lead will include:
- Develop a strong understanding of Hinkley Point C (HPC) configuration management practices, particularly around the transition from design to physical configuration.
- Apply lessons from HPC to Sizewell C (SZC), advising on key configuration milestones and data readiness for replication activities.
- Support delivery of the Overarching Configuration Management Plan, creating and maintaining scope-specific plans that align with the wider project framework.
- Help shape and improve configuration management standards, procedures, and tools to ensure effective control and continuous improvement.
- Build a structured framework for sharing configuration management insights and lessons learned between HPC and SZC.
- Oversee identification and management of Configuration Items, ensuring a consistent, proportionate approach across the programme.
- Work closely with stakeholders to establish and maintain configuration baselines, manage change, and support configuration reviews and audits.
- Produce and refine Configuration Status Reports, providing data-driven insights to support informed decision-making.
- Collaborate with Engineering Data and Tools teams to ensure configuration data is accurately captured and effectively managed.
Preferred Profile:
Alongside a commitment to our values of Care & Compassion, Performance, Team Spirit, and Inclusiveness, we are looking for individuals who can bring the following:
- Proven experience in applying Configuration Management within large, complex programmes — ideally within major infrastructure or equivalent environments.
- Degree in Engineering or a related technical discipline, or equivalent industry experience
- Previous experience working on Hinkley Point C (HPC) or other EPR projects.
- Strong ability to coordinate cross-functional technical topics and apply Configuration Management (CM) processes effectively.
- Skilled in developing pragmatic CM procedures tailored to project needs.
- CM certification (e.g.
CM2
) and/or equivalent practical experience - Background in large, multi-disciplinary engineering projects.
- Reside locally to Bridgwater or be prepared to relocate, as this permanent role does not include travel expense coverage.
Please note that visa sponsorship is not guaranteed and is assessed on a case-by-case basis, depending on role criticality and project needs. Many of our UK projects require high-level security clearance, meaning we can often only consider candidates with an existing, indefinite right to work in the UK. Exceptionally, we may consider visa sponsorship for applicants with niche experience aligned to our core work (e.g. EPR/nuclear new build).
Remuneration & Benefits:
We offer a competitive salary tailored to your experience and background. Whether you're earlier in your career or bring more senior-level expertise, we encourage you to apply if this role aligns with your skills, or if you're open to discussing other opportunities within this discipline.
We also offer a benefits package, both standard and enhanced, which is designed to support your wellbeing, development, and financial future, including:
- 25 Days Annual Leave + Bank Holidays, with the ability to swap bank holidays for cultural or religious celebrations
- Matched Pension Scheme
- Enhanced Maternity, Paternity, Adoption and Neonatal Care Leave
- Employee Referral Scheme
- Private Medical & Dental Insurance
- Electric Vehicle Scheme
- Cycle to Work Scheme
- Training & Development, including additional qualifications and accreditations relevant to your role
- Travel Insurance – for both business and personal travel
- Employee Assistance Programme
