The Vacuum Truck Operator is responsible for performing duties across four core service areas: Emergency Response, Industrial and Marine Services, Facility Decontamination, and Site Remediation. The operator must maintain strict compliance with all company policies, established health and safety procedures, and applicable local, state, and federal regulations.
Key Responsibilities:
- Perform field work for remediation, decontamination, and industrial maintenance projects in accordance with established procedures and safety standards.
- Drive company vehicles approximately 30% of the time and participate in on-site field operations as part of a team.
- Depending on location and business requirements, may perform duties of a Field Technician.
- Accurately complete all required documentation, including timesheets, daily work reports, driver's logs, pre- and post-vehicle inspection reports, and tailgate safety meeting forms.
- Ensure all work is completed in compliance with project scopes, contract documents, schedules, and company policies and procedures.
- Conduct all job activities in a safe manner, maintaining compliance with company and client safety standards.
- Operate and maintain various vehicles and equipment safely, including but not limited to Vacuum Trucks, Vacuum Trailers, Turbo-Vacs, Roll-Off Trucks, and Hydro Vacs.
- Perform routine safety checks and inspections on assigned vehicles and equipment.
- Work in confined or restricted spaces as required, including squatting, crawling, and working in varying dimensions for extended periods.
- Follow instructions accurately and demonstrate the ability to read, understand, and communicate in English, including safety documents, hazard labels, and site-specific safety plans.
- Physical and environmental demands vary significantly depending on project requirements and site conditions.
- Work outdoors year-round in all weather conditions.
- Exposure to challenging environments, including extreme temperatures, heights, hazardous chemicals, loud noise, heavy equipment, and extended work hours.
- Requires the ability to stand, walk, crouch, and perform manual labor for long periods, including lifting up to 50 pounds or more.
- Must remain clean-shaven to ensure the proper fit and seal of respirators.
- May be required to travel for extended periods (typically up to two weeks or more) based on project assignments.
Qualifications:
- Must be proficient in operating vehicles with manual transmissions.
- High School Diploma or GED required (or equivalent level of reading, writing, and reasoning skills).
- Minimum of 2–3 years of experience operating vacuum trucks or similar heavy equipment.
- Additional experience in related fields such as emergency response, manual labor, general construction, or industrial cleaning is preferred.
- Must possess a valid Class "A" Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with Hazmat and Tanker endorsements.
- TWIC (Transportation Worker Identification Credential) is preferred.
- OSHA 40-Hour HAZWOPER and Confined Space Entry certifications must be obtained within the first 30 days of employment.
- Successful completion of a pre-employment background check and substance screening is required. This includes, but is not limited to, employment verification, criminal history review, and Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) screening, with ongoing verification throughout employment to ensure compliance with company policy standards.
