Role Overview

The
Head of Data – EMEA
will lead a regional team of data and modelling professionals responsible for developing and enhancing Energy Exemplar's European datasets across electricity, gas, hydrogen, and emerging energy markets.

Reporting the VP of Data and Insights, this role combines technical expertise with strong leadership and stakeholder management to ensure the delivery of accurate, high-quality, and simulation-ready datasets within PLEXOS, aligned with customer needs and evolving market dynamics.

The Head of Data – EMEA will drive cross-functional collaboration with product, and go-to-market teams to align data initiatives with strategic business objectives and global standards. They will also provide visionary leadership, fostering a high-performance culture that promotes innovation, accountability, and professional growth.

This position plays a pivotal role in ensuring Energy Exemplar's data assets remain reliable, consistent, and future-focused, supporting informed decision-making across the energy sector.

Key Responsibilities

Team Leadership & Management

  • Lead, mentor, and develop a team of data specialists, analysts, and subject matter experts across gas, electricity, and power.
  • Set strategic direction and priorities for dataset development and maintenance within the EMEA region.
  • Foster a culture of collaboration, innovation, and continuous improvement across the data team.

Data Development & Quality Assurance

  • Oversee the creation and calibration of simulation-ready datasets in PLEXOS, ensuring consistency, accuracy, and market relevance.
  • Guide the development and enhancement of gas and electricity models, with a particular focus on natural gas, hydrogen, and low-carbon technologies.
  • Ensure robust data validation and quality control processes are in place, and introduce more AI/ML based methodologies to improve efficiency.
  • Incorporate new PLEXOS Platform features into the datasets, and support the ongoing development of new Insights and Playbook Products

Customer & Stakeholder Engagement

  • Partner with stakeholders to understand use cases, client requirements and data requirements and deliver data product roadmaps and product updates that support their modelling and forecasting needs.
  • Support business development teams with data-related input for customer demonstrations, proposals, and webinars.
  • Represent Energy Exemplar at industry events, contributing to thought leadership in data and modelling excellence.

Strategic Contribution

  • Contribute to the global data strategy, aligning regional initiatives with company-wide objectives.
  • Stay informed of market trends, regulatory developments, and emerging technologies impacting energy data.
  • Identify opportunities to expand and improve dataset offerings in response to evolving customer and market demands.

Skills & Experience Required

  • Proven experience leading data, modelling, or analytics teams within the energy sector.
  • Strong understanding of European energy markets, particularly gas, power, and emerging hydrogen sectors.
  • Experience with European short- and medium-term energy trading markets
  • Demonstrated expertise in energy market modelling, ideally using PLEXOS or similar tools.
  • Familiarity with market fundamentals (supply/demand balance, price formation,  etc.).
  • Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills, with a customer-centric mindset.
  • Strategic thinking, coupled with hands-on data quality and operational management capabilities.
  • Degree in Engineering, Economics, Energy Systems, or related field; postgraduate qualification preferred.
