Hospital Ward Catering Assistant - Full Time - 40 hours per week

Week one:

Monday, Thursday, Saturday & Sunday - 07:30am-18:30pm

Week Two:

Monday, Wednesday, Thursday & Friday - 07:30am-18:30pm

We are looking for a new catering assistant to work as part of the Treatment Centre kitchen team.

You will be tasked with carrying out a variety of duties associated with catering preparation, food and beverage service to patience and maintaining high hygiene standards in the ward kitchen. Candidates will be expected to work every other weekend and occasional Bank Holidays.

Key Result Areas:

  • Deliver high standards in all aspects in providing a service observing health, safety and hygiene
  • To deliver good principles of customer care ensuring helpfulness, awareness and compassion to patients, visitors, staff and colleagues.
  • Preparation of patient meal trays
  • Plating and service of hot and cold food items with meal delivery to patients, including service of condiments
  • Probing and recording food temperatures. Recording of equipment temperatures
  • Washing and refilling of patients water jugs and beakers
  • To take the patient orders and communicate the requirements to the catering department
  • Cleaning of meal trays, crockery and cutlery for all food areas. Collection, segregation and disposal of catering waste materials
  • Completion of catering department procedural paperwork such as temperature checks and monitoring
  • Ensure high risk items are recorded correctly and stored in accordance with the Food Safety Policy.
  • To work co-operatively with colleagues as part of the team and perform additional duties as and when required to.

Person Specifications:

  • Able to communicate with all levels of staff and members of the public
  • Respond to customer enquiries in accordance with company procedure
  • Customer Focused
  • Must act with integrity and openness when advising staff, visitors and patience on food allergens
  • Understanding of a range of routine work procedures and systems
  • Basic Numeracy & Literacy
  • Basic food hygiene qualification or the ability to undertake training in line with the legal requirements of level 2 in food safety
  • Experience in cleaning and food handling procedures, Knowledge of COSHH
  • Experience of working in a catering industry is desirable
  • Knowledge of food allergens and how to access nutrition information in specific folders on the ward and retail areas
  • To provide Ad Hoc training when required to other members of the team

Job Types: Full-time, Permanent
