Technical Operations, Resources and Services (TORS) provide, high quality technical support for teaching, research and practical activities within the University. The Fashion Design team is committed to providing highly skilled technical support for a wide variety of equipment, software and facilities relating to Fashion Design.
As a Fashion Design Technician, you will play a key part, in a small team, providing expert guidance and specialist expertise, within Fashion Design, primarily supporting the production of garments, through pattern cutting, machining, and digital production.
As a Fashion Technician, you will be student facing and sited within the HPO Building, city centre. Knowledge and experience in the selection of appropriate techniques, is key to this role, you will also provide advice and solutions for a wide range of staff, student and research projects.
You will work closely with the Senior Technician on the day to day activities that support our students. This will include session prep, demonstrations, or providing Individual support to students working on their design projects.
You must have excellent communication skills, and the self-confidence to liaise with staff, students and stakeholders at all levels. You'll be committed to providing excellent customer service and demonstrate a professional approach, when managing enquiries, and giving advice, guidance and information. You will be able to plan, organise and prioritise your own work in a proactive and flexible manner, and work to deadlines whilst maintaining high levels of accuracy and attention to detail.

You will be contractually enrolled into the Local Government Pension Scheme (LGPS) one of the largest and most generous defined benefit pension schemes in the country.
Each year you will earn a secure pension benefit of 1/49th of your salary and the University will pay pension contributions towards the cost of this pension (currently worth about 22% of your salary). For a starting salary of £25,000, for example, the University would pay just over £5,400 in the first year of your employment and you would earn a pension of £510 p.a. for that year (payable from your State Pension Age).
