Warwick CV DA, United Kingdom National Gas Full time £34,646 - £50,000 per year
Join us and help be the energy behind the change.

National Gas is the backbone of Britain's energy system. We're responsible for securing the UK's energy, whilst leading the way to a net-zero future.

As the operator of Britain's national gas transmission network, we repair and maintain gas pipelines, safely and reliably delivering gas to power stations, industries and 23 million homes.

Our skilled teams work to keep the gas flowing to our customers, generating power and helping to keep everyone connected.

At the same time, we're pioneering new solutions like hydrogen transmission to help decarbonise energy, so our infrastructure continues to power the country as it transitions to net-zero.

As a graduate joining National Gas, it's an inspiring environment where you know your work will directly contribute to keeping the nation's energy secure today, whilst building a more sustainable, netzero energy system for tomorrow.

About the role

Our Asset Graduates have a brilliant opportunity to work alongside experts, who every day, are shaping policy for National Gas.

The energy industry is changing, and our network needs to evolve to meet the challenge. They do this by ensuring that our company assets are adapted and maintained regularly to reflect the ever-evolving nature of the energy sector.

Our assets make sure that homes are heated, businesses are running, and power stations are able to generate. We have a greener future to plan for, environmental commitments to meet and hydrogen to think about. We have a duty to every bill payer to deliver this efficiently - managing our assets is critical to everybody in the UK.

The Uncertainty Mechanism (UM) team is responsible for securing capital expenditure through the development of Ofgem funding requests for network-wide investments. This team of experts focus on the funding application process, including the rationale behind investment decisions and the considerations of regulatory bodies. Collaboration with a range of key stakeholders is essential in gathering robust evidence to support investment cases alongside the development of clear and persuasive written justifications.

This role offers a unique opportunity to gain insight into the dynamic world of uncertainty mechanisms, with projects spanning a wide range of asset types, from cyber security to pipeline investments. You'll apply your research and analytical skills to investment planning and needs case development, supporting submission products through to delivery.

During this 18-month programme, after your initial induction, you'll complete three 6-month placements. This will cover all teams within the Asset business function, so that you can have exposure to different, yet relevant experiences and skillsets that will set you up for your career.

The UM team offer a valuable learning experience within a fast-paced and evolving business environment, where you'll gain and strengthen skills in project management, team collaboration, needs case development for successful funding outcomes, analytical writing and data-driven justification.

You'll also benefit from working in a diverse, supportive team at the heart of network engineering and asset development.

About you

As a graduate, you'll provide programme level support across current and future UM projects, enabling you to develop key skills in project management, stakeholder engagement, matrix working, and analytical thinking. You'll take ownership of a specific aspect of submission development for a UM project, working closely with delivery and asset management teams and have the opportunity to support collaborative submission working groups involving stakeholders from across the business. This may include preparing presentations, identifying and escalating project risks, and helping resolve actions to progress submissions.

You will be challenged to contribute meaningfully to large-scale capital investments and drive process improvements by taking responsibility for key enhancement areas identified by the Programme Manager. With guidance and support from the wider team, you'll gain valuable insight into how regulatory funding decisions are made and the level of justification required to secure investment.

A genuine interest in your subject area is invaluable, as is the passion and determination to succeed and grow. Approaching tasks with care and commitment, alongside a strong desire to achieve the best possible outcomes, will be key to making the most of this scheme.

We celebrate the different experiences our colleagues bring to our organisation, and strongly encourage applicants of all backgrounds to apply
