Careers and Employability Manager

The Careers and Employability Manager will lead and develop the university's careers and employability services, ensuring students and graduates are equipped with the skills, experience, and networks needed to succeed in the modern workplace. This role is responsible for enhancing graduate outcomes, developing employer and alumni partnerships, and embedding employability into curricula, while managing a small, high-performing team across multiple campuses.
Key Responsibilities
Team Leadership & Management
- Lead, motivate, and manage a small team of Careers Advisors and Employability Officers across campuses.
- Oversee workload allocation, performance management, professional development, and training for team members.
- Foster a culture of excellence, collaboration, and continuous improvement within the team.
Careers & Employability Strategy
- Develop, implement, and evaluate careers and employability strategies aligned with school and university goals.
- Monitor and improve graduate outcomes, ensuring strong alignment with labour market trends and regulatory benchmarks.
- Embed employability and career readiness across curricula, supporting academic departments in preparing students for successful post-graduate pathways.
- Identify and implement initiatives to increase graduate employability, including employability skills programs, internships, and work-based learning opportunities.
- Lead evaluation of employability programs to measure impact on student outcomes and inform continuous improvement.
Employer & Professional Networks
- Build and maintain strategic partnerships with employers, professional bodies, and industry networks to create opportunities for internships, placements, and graduate employment.
- Conduct employer engagement activities to identify skill needs and inform curriculum and student support initiatives.
- Develop alumni engagement strategies to support mentoring, networking, and career opportunities for students and graduates.
- Promote pathways for students into high-quality graduate roles, professional development opportunities, and emerging sectors.
Student Support, Programmes & Platforms
- Oversee delivery of one-to-one careers guidance, group workshops, employer-led events, and skills development programs.
- Enhance student access to digital employability platforms, including job and internship portals, networking tools, and career resources.
- Work closely with students to provide tailored support, increasing confidence, employability skills, and readiness for the graduate labour market.
Person Specification
Qualifications & Experience
- Degree or equivalent qualification; relevant professional qualifications in careers guidance or employability preferred.
- Significant experience in careers guidance, employability, or student services within higher education.
- Proven experience managing and developing a small team.
- Demonstrated success in improving graduate outcomes, employer engagement, and work-based learning opportunities.
- Experience in integrating employability skills and strategies into academic curricula.
