About the Role:
Are you passionate about the outdoors and committed to making a difference in the lives of children and young people? Quality Protects Children (QPC) is looking for an Outdoor Pursuits Instructor to join our team, delivering exciting, inclusive, and safe outdoor activities for young people in our care.
You will deliver sessions both at our in-house school (Lawrence House School), across our six care homes, and on residential trips. You will be responsible for delivering structured programmes including the Duke of Edinburgh Award (DofE) and our OWLS framework, helping young people develop outdoor skills, confidence, leadership, and resilience. This is a varied role that combines adventure, teaching, leadership, and direct support for children and young people.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead and instruct groups in outdoor activities such as hillwalking, mountain biking, caving, and more
- Deliver Duke of Edinburgh Award (DofE) programmes and OWLS-based outdoor sessions
- Conduct risk assessments, safety briefings, and incident reporting
- Transport young people and equipment (minibus/trailer driving)
- Maintain and prepare outdoor equipment
- Support with catering, housekeeping, and overall welfare of young people during residentials
- Build positive, trusting relationships with children and young people
Skills & Attributes:
- Experience leading outdoor pursuits (essential)
- Excellent leadership, communication, and group management skills
- Calm, empathetic, and able to respond effectively in challenging situations
- Reliable, organised, and punctual
- Enthusiastic about outdoor environments and activities
- Full UK Driving Licence required
Desired Qualifications:
- Single Pitch Award (SPA) – Essential
- British Canoeing Union Level 2 – Essential
- Mountain Leader (ML) – Desirable
- Trail Cycle Leader (TCL) – Desirable
- Mountain Bike Leader (MBL) – Desirable
- First Aid (Outdoor) – Desirable (or willingness to complete)
