DACW Advanced FLT Operator

About the Role

Reporting to the Logistics Team Leader, the DACW Advanced Operator role consists of monitoring and operating the conveyor system that transports pallets from the converting lines into the dynamic automated compact warehouse (DACW). Outside of this their main purpose remains performing the role of a Logistics FLT Operator.

What You Will Do

Working at height:

Fall arrest is the only category of working at height that in the worst-case scenario allows a fall to take place. The fall arrest system then reacts by arresting the fall in a controlled manor.

When working at height in the DACW, the Advanced Operator utilises personal fall arrest equipment that consists of a full-body harness, shock absorbing lanyard and a self-retracting lifeline. The Harness must be fitted securely enough around the chest, shoulders and legs that in the event of a fall the energy is absorbed across the body.

In the event of a spill in the warehouse an Advanced Operator could be required to be working at height for a number of hours.

As well as wearing a safety harness and carrying out a variety of tasks whilst working at height, the Advanced Operator must also be able to carry out a rescue if a co-worker was to fall from heights. This is extremely time critical as being suspended in a harness after a fall for a period of greater than 20 minutes can result in suspension trauma. This involves securing a rescue device, often above head height, connecting the attachment to the fallen person and then manually winching them to a point of safety. The safety kit itself can weigh up to 11 kg.

Operating aspect of the role:

  • In certain situations, outside of the DACW, lone-working will be required and is something a candidate should be comfortable with.
  • Climbing stairs/ladders to access various conveyors, elevators and Transport cars in the area.
  • Operate as Logistics FLT Operator as/when required by Team Leader.
  • Straightening any pallets up to a weight of 500kg that have been forced out of line on the conveyor.
  • Removing any spilled product/pallets that have fallen over in transit.
  • Correcting any leaning pallets in the warehouse.
  • Move any damaged pallets and/or ropa trollies.
  • Replace or manually scan any damaged barcode labels.
  • Straightening of any pallets that are leaning and failing at the profile station.
  • Carrying multiple sacks of products for up 120m from a trolley spill.
  • General cleaning/tidying of area.
  • Manipulating jammed pallets of up to 500kg with levers.
  • Removing sections of damaged pallets with crow bars etc.
  • Fault management of transport cars/trollies and elevators.
  • Operations/fault management to be carried out via WCS/WINCC systems. Utilising handset controls as well as PC-based systems.

  • Maneuvering in restricted spaces and awkward access.

  • Work to Standard Operating Procedures, undertaking risk assessments, be part of quality inspections, continuous improvement activities as well as regular Cleaning, Inspection and Lubrication processes.
  • Able to comply with the lock off isolation procedure – LOTO.
  • Report any safety issues to the Team Leader while also utilising the Gensuite Concern Report tool.
  • Being present at peer-to-peer shift handovers, evident by completing handover form.
  • Perform machine start-ups and stops as required, logging any problems following procedures.
