About this role

The St Bart's Multi Academy Trust, in partnership with Governors, staff and children of Abbey Hill Academy and College are seeking to appoint a highly motivated and enthusiastic individual to join our hard working and committed team.

At Abbey Hill Academy and College our children come first. High expectations, mutual trust and respect are underpinned by a warm, supportive ethos. In the best interests of our children we work very closely with our partner Academies. The successful candidate will be working alongside a team of caring, enthusiastic, dedicated staff, who are well-supported by their Senior Leadership Team.

Abbey Hill Academy & College, an all-through special academy catering for children with a diverse range of needs, is seeking to appoint a dynamic and highly motivated Assistant SENCO to join our team.

Main Purpose of the role

The Assistant SENCO is responsible for the high-level operational management of key administrative, statutory, and complex pupil processes delegated by the Vice Principal. This pivotal role ensures robust SEND accountability by managing the end-to-end process of securing additional funding (including completing detailed costed provision maps), leading the preparation and coordination of all statutory and operational documentation (including for tribunals and referrals), driving quality assurance (eg: IQM accreditation), and coordinating case management and the delivery of specialist provision.

Duties and Responsibilities

Operational Management, Compliance & Funding

  • Manage the end-to-end process for securing Additional Funding Requests, including creating detailed, costed provision maps
  • Coordinate and prepare for all SEND tribunals. This includes the meticulous collation of relevant evidence, drafting documents, coordinating professional reports, and providing support during proceedings
  • Lead operational case management and coordination for identified pupils, ensuring continuity of support. This includes managing the process of tracking referrals to external specialists and completing referrals for additional support (e.g., Local Authority services)
  • Lead on external accreditation / quality marks related to inclusion and SEND, such as the Inclusion Quality Mark (IQM), driving necessary whole-school improvements and preparing submissions
  • Coordinate the gathering of evidence and reports related to specialist provision and outcomes for Looked After Children (LAC) and post-LAC students
  • Work with senior leaders to track interventions and gather evidence of impact in relation to Pupil Premium and EAL children
  • Provide high-level operational oversight and administrative support for the Vice Principal's delegated portfolio, including notetaking, scheduling, and coordinating and producing reports for senior leaders and the governing body

Specialist Provision & Staff Development

  • Design and deliver practical, targeted training and CPD for class teams on specialist SEND practice (e.g., communication systems, sensory regulation).
  • Deliver workshops and training sessions for internal staff, as well as external stakeholders including parents/carers.
  • Work effectively with children by delivering and tracking targeted, specialist interventions (one-to-one or small group) to meet pupil needs

Stakeholder Engagement

  • Act as a key operational contact for parents on matters related to SEND. Liaise with parents to provide support and information. Plan and deliver workshops for parents/carers on complex needs and statutory processes
  • Liaison with external agencies (e.g., Local Authority, SENMAS, specialist health professionals) to chase updates and coordinate multi-agency input
  • Undertake home visits as part of case management and coordination to provide support or advice as necessary and appropriate

Abbey Hill Academy & College is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people/vulnerable adults and expect all staff and volunteers to share this commitment"
