About The Role
An opportunity has arisen within MY Therapy service to recruit experienced and highly motivated part-time Band 6 Occupational Therapist. The role is within our Community Neuro and ESD team, providing specialist therapy to people within the community setting.
The successful candidate will work within the community neurology team to provide rehabilitation to individuals with a neurological disorder including Stroke, Motor Neurone Disease (MND), Parkinson's Disease, Multiple Sclerosis (MS) and other progressive neurological conditions. They will facilitate timely discharges from hospital, and support individuals to manage their condition effectively to maximise function and prevent unnecessary hospital admissions.
MY Therapy service is a large MDT incorporating Occupational Therapists, Physiotherapists and support staff. The team will provide an opportunity to be involved in the integration of services to see the delivery of health and social services to Wakefield residents in line with providing 'care closer to home'.

Main duties
The Mid Yorkshire Hospitals NHS Trust acknowledges and supports the statements laid down in the professional codes of conduct.

As an employee you will be required to comply with Clinical Governance.
You are personally responsible for maintaining registration with the HCPC.
To independently and effectively self manage a defined caseload within the Community Rehabilitation team using evidence based, client centred principles to assess, plan, implement and evaluate interventions.
To be responsible for the day to day supervision of junior staff and/or students within the Community Rehabilitation team, designated by the Head Occupational Therapist/Team Leader.
To contribute to the clinical and professional development of the Occupational Therapy Services within the Community Rehabilitation Team.
To be flexible in your approach and use of treatment media in order to work across various locations and settings as determined by the needs of the team.
Essential Person Specification Requirements
- Occupational Therapy Degree and HCPC Registration
- Proven post-qualification experience
- Involvement in professional practice education.
- Experience of working within neurological rehabilitation or related area.
- Supervision of junior and/or support staff.
- Experience of having a lead role for designated projects.
- Know the key concepts of the biological, social, psychological and clinical sciences which are relevant to their profession -specific practice.
- Evidence of post-graduate study in the field of neurology.
- Awareness of factors that can influence team working.
- Understand the need to establish and maintain a safe practice environment.
- Evidence of the use of reflective practice for personal development.
- Awareness of National guidelines and legislation relating to health and social care provision.
- Awareness of own limitations.
- Ability to use complex communication skills in a variety of settings.
- Be able to use appropriate assessment techniques for patients with complex neurological disorders.
- Be able to analyse and evaluate the information collected and formulate appropriate recommendations.
- Ability to work autonomously and utilise supervision and formal appraisal systems.
- Be able to use research, reasoning and problem solving skills to determine appropriate actions.
- Be able to formulate specific and appropriate management plans including the setting of timescales.
- Ability to develop, monitor and evaluate service provision.
- A wide range of interpersonal skills including ability to prioritise, delegate, negotiate.
- Ability to demonstrate a flexible approach to working practice to facilitate effective team working.
- Ability to adapt to fluctuating environments and complex situations.
- Ability to work on own initiative and take responsibility for specific tasks.
- Access to a vehicle with the ability to travel around the Wakefield District in line with service requirements.
