Job Introduction
We have an urgent requirement for a Contract Lawyer with specialist knowledge in Commercial Contracts and/ or Procurement law to support one of our Public Sector clients. It will afford the opportunity to the successful candidate to further enhance their expertise in a broad range of commercial and procurement work.
This role will be on a initial 3-6 month contract but is likely to extend. This will be a hybrid role with potential to attend the clients offices in Birmingham so being located in this proximity is preferred and you will be working via an Umbrella company.
Main duties
- Providing advice on a wide range of matters relating to procurement and commercial contracts alongside handling any complex matters as they arise.
- Negotiating and drafting all types of complex legal agreements, commercial and government law
- Assisting on matters including significant capital projects, major procurement projects, academy transfers and Local Authority matters
- Identifying, analysing and advising on client's needs, opportunities, risks and threats.
- Product offerings and proof of concepts;
- Legal developments (statutory or otherwise);

About you
- You must be a Qualified Solicitor (SRA or Law Society Registered), with the ability to work independently with limited supervision
- Experience in working for local authorities and Government preferred.
- Commercially aware with some exposure to business development, with the ability to maintain and nurture strong client relationships
- A forward thinker, with excellent analytical, communication and organisational skills, you will be self-motivated with the ability to manage workloads and deadlines
- Responsibility for the provision of high quality legal and commercial advice and support to relevant partners on a wide range of their needs.
- Sound legal, commercial and risk judgement and understand and build an effective Legal risk management framework.
- Thrive on challenge and be able to balance multiple competing demands through uncertainty or ambiguity.
- Succinctly, clear and confident communication, drafting and negotiation skills
