The Role

We are seeking a Systems Engineer to play a key role in the development and integration of our multi-disciplinary laboratory instrumentation. You will be responsible for bringing together hardware, software, and analytical subsystems into a cohesive, high-performing product. Working closely with mechanical, electrical, optical, and software engineers, you will ensure that the overall system architecture is robust, well-tested, and aligned with customer requirements.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead system-level integration and testing of complex laboratory instrumentation.
  • Develop and maintain system architecture documentation, interface definitions, and integration plans.
  • Collaborate with hardware, software, and analytical teams to ensure component compatibility and overall system performance.
  • Design and execute verification and validation protocols for system-level functionality, reliability, and safety.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve integration challenges involving electronics, mechanics, optics, and software.
  • Joining the product development team at an early stage you will have the opportunity to be part of building the product development framework for the company.
  • Support the development of prototype systems, test setups, and experimental configurations.
  • Contribute to requirements definition and traceability across the design and test lifecycle.
  • Participate in risk assessments, design reviews, and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Interface with manufacturing and field teams to support system deployment, feedback loops, and accelerate design iteration toward real world impact.

Ideal Candidate Profile

  • Bachelor's degree (or higher) in Engineering, Physics, Product Design, or a related technical field.
  • Minimum 2 years of industry experience working in a multi-disciplinary product development environment, ideally involving laboratory or analytical instrumentation.
  • You should be highly curious, happy to try and fail, self-motivated with strong passion for your work.
  • Experience integrating and testing complex systems involving mechanical, electrical, optical, and software components.
  • Familiarity with automated systems, sensors, cameras, or spectroscopic instrumentation is highly desirable.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and a hands-on, experimental approach to system development.
  • Excellent communication and documentation skills; ability to work effectively in a fast-paced startup team.
  • Knowledge of system engineering tools and practices (e.g., requirements management, version control, test documentation) is a plus.
  • Involvement in customer research, user needs and design thinking. Strategic thinker with an interest in shaping product direction within a fast-paced startup environment.
