Design Manager Rail and Infrastructure

We're recruiting for a Design Manager to join a leading Tier 1 main contractor delivering multi-disciplinary rail and infrastructure schemes across the North of England.

The role will be based in York, working on a range of projects involving stations, FRC/structures, M&E installations, lifts, fire systems, and telecoms. The focus is on civil engineering and ensuring the design process runs smoothly from early stages through to construction and handover.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage the full design lifecycle on multi-disciplinary rail projects.
  • Coordinate design interfaces between civils, structures, and M&E teams.
  • Review design documentation for buildability, compliance, and technical accuracy.
  • Lead design meetings and manage consultant and subcontractor deliverables.
  • Provide technical input and support to project teams throughout construction.

Requirements

  • Proven experience as a Design Manager within rail or major infrastructure.
  • Strong civil engineering background (stations, structures, or heavy civils preferred).
  • Excellent coordination, stakeholder, and communication skills.
  • Based in, or commutable to, York.

Package

  • Salary: £60,000 - £65,000
