BACKGROUND TO THE POST

The College requires a Groundsperson to work in a mobile grounds maintenance team across five of the WCG centres. The team is based at the Moreton Morrell Campus, but regularly tends the grounds at the Leamington and Rugby sites.

Moreton Morrell is a land based campus with large areas of grassland. Leamington, and Rugby are technical sites and therefore are predominately clothed with shrubberies. It is anticipated that the Groundsperson will spend equal amounts of time on each of these sites producing and maintaining quality sports pitches, and assisting the Gardens team on an as-needed basis.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

· To assist in maintaining the grounds to the college standard.

· To assist other members of staff with grass mowing and all aspects of turf care including: aeration, scarification, rolling, top dressing, fertiliser application, weed control and repair work as required on amenity and fine turf areas.

· To use various types of mechanical equipment, under direction from the Head Groundsperson and Sports Turf Coordinator ie: ride on mowers, tractors, hedge cutters etc, and to carry out daily maintenance checks, such as oil levels and cutter adjustments.

· To assist in all forms of sport maintenance including;

o The erection and dismantling of goalposts

o Initial marking football, rugby, hockey pitches

o Over marking with dry powder, wet line aerosol paint additives

o End of season renovations

o Drag matting / brushing artificial surfaces

· To assist with the upkeep of Moreton Hall Grounds and Gardens

· To support Gardens and Estate teams in down season or when the need arises

· To assist in all forms of hard landscaping including; fencing, slabbing, decking, terracing and gravelling.

· To assist in litter picking as and when the need arises.

In order to support during busy exam periods, you may be asked to undertake exam invigilator duties. The College will provide training.

LEAVE ENTITLEMENT

The College offers a generous leave entitlement to support staff, of 38 days leave (includes 25 days leave, 8 statutory Bank Holidays, 4 College closure days at Christmas and an annual Relaxed Day) pro rata for part time. This will rise to 41 days after 5 years' service.

HOURS OF WORK

The post holder will be expected to work such hours as are necessary for the proper performance of their duties and responsibilities, normally 37 hours per week.

PLACE OF WORK

The principal place of work will be the College's premises based at our Moreton Morrell College. However, the post holder may be required to work on either a temporary or an indefinite basis at any premises at which we may provide services.

Essential Attainments

  • Experience of grass mowing with a range of machinery and a good understanding of its uses
  • A current clean UK driving license and own transport.

Desirable Attainments

  • A recognised horticultural Qualification.
  • FEPA Spraying Certificates (PA1 + PA6).
  • Experience of grass mowing with a range of machinery and a good understanding of its issues.
  • Working knowledge of plant species, their identification and appropriate maintenance.
