Job Overview

We are seeking a dependable HGV Class 2 Driver for Breakdown and Recovery operations. This role involves responding promptly to breakdowns, recovering and towing vehicles, and providing exceptional roadside assistance. Working on a 4 on, 2 off schedule, you will be an essential part of our fleet operations, ensuring vehicles are safely recovered and returned to service efficiently. Duties

  • Respond swiftly to breakdown calls across designated routes, providing roadside recovery and assistance for vehicles.
  • Operate heavy-duty recovery trucks, including tow trucks and flatbeds, with precision and safety.
  • Load, unload, and secure vehicles or equipment using appropriate tools when necessary.
  • Conduct thorough inspections of damaged or disabled vehicles to assess repair needs or recovery procedures.
  • Communicate clearly with dispatch teams and customers, to coordinate recovery efforts effectively.
  • Maintain accurate logs of all breakdown incidents, recoveries performed, and vehicle details for reporting purposes.
  • Ensure all recovery activities comply with safety regulations and company policies at all times.
  • Perform basic mechanical assessments
  • Assist with duties or yard management as needed, including moving equipment or vehicles within the yard area.

Skills

  • Proven experience in commercial driving, especially within breakdown recovery or roadside assistance roles.
  • Strong driving skills with a valid HGV Class 2 license; familiarity with manual transmission preferred.
  • Ability to operate specialised recovery equipment including tow trucks and flatbeds
  • Excellent communication skills for liaising with team members, customers and dispatchers.
  • Experience with route driving under time-sensitive conditions while maintaining safety standards.
  • Physical capability to lift and perform manual tasks required during recoveries.
  • Familiarity with safety protocols required.
