Senior Quantity Surveyor / Managing Quantity Surveyor

Our client is seeking an experienced commercial professional to support the delivery of a major construction programme in the South of England. The successful candidate will play a key role in overseeing commercial functions, guiding junior team members, and ensuring strong financial governance across the project.

Key Responsibilities

Team Leadership & Collaboration

  • Foster a culture of strong commercial awareness within the project team.
  • Ensure compliance with company procedures, governance standards, and best practice.
  • Support the development, motivation, and performance of junior commercial staff.
  • Delegate tasks appropriately while retaining overall accountability.

Commercial Management

  • Prepare internal commercial reports and other required documentation.
  • Produce valuations/applications for payment with full contractual backing.
  • Compile cost reports for the client with compliant supporting evidence.
  • Manage procurement schedules for subcontractors and materials.
  • Administer subcontractor and supplier accounts from requisition to final account agreement.
  • Oversee contract administration, including change control and register maintenance.
  • Identify commercial risks and opportunities, including value engineering options.
  • Monitor and challenge project costs while supporting cost-mitigation strategies.
  • Ensure accurate site records are maintained at all times.
  • Implement work breakdown structures aligned with contract requirements.
  • Assist in producing cost-to-complete forecasts and risk registers.
  • Prepare change events, extensions of time, final accounts, and related submissions.
  • Carry out quantity measurement in line with relevant measurement standards.
  • Support effective client relationship management.
  • Help optimise cash flow, including WIP control and forecasting.
  • Contribute to project margin improvement initiatives.
  • Undertake any additional duties as required by senior leadership.

Qualifications & Skills

  • Degree in Quantity Surveying or related discipline.
  • Chartered status (or actively working towards chartership).
  • Strong communication and negotiation skills, with the ability to lead a team.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office and general digital tools.
  • Full UK driving licence.
