We are actively seeking a Maintenance Technician (mechanical biased) to carry out the maintenance, repair and installation of plant, equipment, systems and building structure associated with Trust premises.

Band 5, £31,049 - £37,796 per annum

Full time, 37.5 hours per week

Key Duties/Responsibilities

  1. Service, test, diagnose, repair and calibrate mechanical/building mechanical and electrical installations, plant and equipment.

  2. Work in accordance with the requirements of HTM's; health and safety regulations, policies and procedures; building regulations etc.

  3. Ensure safe working practices are implemented at all times, including correct use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and adherence to health and safety and infection control procedures. Make the Estates Manager aware of any health and safety concerns within the team.

  4. Carry out planned preventative maintenance on building, mechanical and electrical installations, plant and equipment.

  5. Manufacture, assemble, erect and install new building, mechanical and electrical plant and equipment.

  6. Carry out testing on all types of building, mechanical and electrical plant and equipment following installation or repair. Request remedial works or emergency isolations if required.

  7. Undertake PAT testing when required, in compliance with HTM 2020.

  8. Installation testing, general inspections and servicing of gas installations and equipment (Gas Registered team member only).

  9. Assist other trades in carrying out maintenance, repairs, testing, inspection and installation work.

  10. Receive and effectively respond to emergency, urgent and routine requests in priority order. Report job status via electronic communication.

  11. Where requested, carry out minor repairs to the building fabric to ensure the safety and security of the Trust's premises, patients, staff and visitors.

  12. Respond in a safe manner to the effects of bad weather, e.g., flooding, high winds, etc.

  13. Understand the interrelationships between the various maintenance crafts. Take responsibility and be able to take action using own technical knowledge, having the freedom to initiate action in accordance with health and safety and other working procedures.

  14. Ensure that there is minimum disruptions to wards, departments and patients while carrying out work.

  15. Provide technical engineering advice and support regarding the maintenance and repair of services and equipment.

Systems and Equipment

  1. Responsible for the management and use of information systems including handheld devices.

  2. Undertakes trials/testing of new equipment to develop and improve the delivery of the Estates function.

  3. Where appropriate, carries out physical testing in line with designated Competent Person duties.

  4. Utilises a range of hand tools, power tools and testing equipment.

  5. Qualified electrical, mechanical or gas engineer with understanding of technical plant and equipment.

Understands operational procedures and safe working practices of major items of plant and systems including:

  • Heating and hot water systems
  • Ventilation plant and associated systems including refrigeration and chiller units
  • Low voltage electrical distribution systems and switchgear
  • Emergency stand by generating plant
  • Fire alarm systems and emergency lighting
  • Lifts
  • Door access systems
  • Nurse call systems

Awareness of operational procedures and safe working practices of major items of plant and systems such as:

  • Gas distribution systems

Carries out work in accordance with relevant building and health and safety regulations.

Interprets legislation, technical guidance, and best practice codes.

Works autonomously in ensuring maintenance services are delivered and targets are met, including co ordinating the work of other team members.

Makes judgements across relevant technical Estates issues, within own area of expertise.
