Our client is a leading engineering consultancy operating across critical national infrastructure programmes within Defence and Nuclear. Their teams are trusted to provide complex safety, engineering and project delivery expertise across some of the UK's most vital assets. Principal Nuclear Safety Engineer
to take a technical leadership role on major safety case programmes.

THE PRINCIPAL NUCLEAR SAFETY ENGINEER ROLE

As Principal Nuclear Safety Engineer, you'll lead the development, review and delivery of nuclear safety case activities for high-profile defence programmes. Working collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams, you'll ensure safe design and operation of complex systems through robust analysis, documentation and regulatory engagement. This is an opportunity to shape strategy, provide safety leadership and mentor junior engineers within a dynamic and supportive environment.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Defining nuclear safety case strategies and supporting design assurance
  • Leading safety assessments (HAZOP, HAZID, FMEA, ALARP etc.)
  • Producing safety documentation (PCSR, PSR, ALARP reports etc.)
  • Interfacing with clients, regulators and design authorities
  • Managing and delivering safety case work packages across multiple projects

PRINCIPAL NUCLEAR SAFETY ENGINEER ESSENTIAL SKILLS

  • Proven background in nuclear or defence safety case engineering
  • Degree in Engineering, Physics or a related discipline (2:1 or higher)
  • Chartered or working towards Chartership
  • Strong understanding of nuclear safety principles, analysis and documentation
  • Excellent communication, stakeholder engagement and leadership skills
  • Eligibility for UK Security Clearance
