About the Role
We're looking for a confident, people-focused LGV Senior Team Manager to join our Logistics team at Ocado. You'll play a pivotal role in managing our transport site operations — ensuring all deliveries run safely, efficiently, and to the highest standard of customer service.
This is a leadership role at the heart of our operation. You'll inspire, motivate, and develop a diverse team of LGV drivers and managers to deliver outstanding results every day. You'll be a visible leader who leads by example, builds trust, and champions collaboration — creating a workplace where people feel valued, supported, and proud to be part of Ocado.
As deputy to the Transport Manager, you'll also oversee the site in their absence, ensuring consistent performance, safety, and service excellence.
What You'll Do- Lead, motivate, and develop the LGV transport team to deliver a high-performing, customer-focused operation.
- Build a strong, positive team culture where everyone feels valued and engaged.
- Inspire your team to work together, communicate openly, and take pride in delivering exceptional service.
- Lead by example — demonstrating professionalism, fairness, and a "can-do" attitude at all times.
- Coach and mentor frontline managers to reach their full potential, developing leadership skills within the team.
- Manage employee relations effectively, including performance, attendance, and conduct issues, following HR processes.
- Oversee shift operations, ensuring all LGV runs are completed efficiently, safely, and on time.
- Ensure compliance with transport legislation, the company Operator's Licence, and Working Time Directive.
- Liaise with internal teams and external partners to maintain seamless operations and service delivery.
- Analyse and review KPIs, identify areas for improvement, and implement effective solutions.
- Support recruitment, onboarding, and training — helping new colleagues integrate successfully and thrive.
- Ensure all vehicles, facilities, and equipment are maintained to company and legal standards.
Champion Health & Safety across all areas, embedding a culture of safety and accountability.
Essential:
- Proven experience managing and motivating large teams in a logistics or transport environment.
- Strong people leadership skills — with the ability to inspire, coach, and build high-performing teams.
- Excellent highway code knowledge
- National or International CPC in Road Haulage.
- Excellent customer service and communication skills.
- Sound knowledge of UK road transport operations and compliance.
- Full UK Driving Licence and O-licence holder
- Experience applying HR policies and leading on people matters.
- In-depth understanding of EU Drivers' Hours and Working Time Directive.
- Previous experience in an FMCG logistics operation.
- A natural leader who brings out the best in others.
- Passionate about teamwork, collaboration, and building a positive work culture.
- Calm, clear, and focused — even under pressure.
- Adaptable, proactive, and solution-oriented.
- Organised, methodical, and committed to delivering results through people.
At Ocado, we don't just move goods — we move ideas forward. Our logistics network is powered by innovation and teamwork, and our people are at the core of our success.
As an LGV Senior Team Manager, you'll have the opportunity to lead, influence, and grow within one of the UK's most advanced and dynamic logistics environments. We'll support you with training, development, and the tools you need to lead confidently and make an impact every day.
