About the role

The GI ACE team are delighted to recruit this part time role that will help to successfully deliver a research project examining the effectiveness of resistance strategies to and recovery from state capture.

This is an exciting opportunity to be a part of cutting-edge research into one of the most pressing policy challenges of our time. In this role, you will contribute to the project 'Building resilience to state capture', led by Prof. Elizabeth Dávid-Barrett. You will engage in collaborative research activity, producing reviews on post-state capture policy challenges around the world and contributing to written outputs, including blogs, working papers and journal articles, in collaboration with members of the GI ACE team.

You will deliver excellent engagement with the Programme Director and other members of the GI ACE team in order to maximise the furtherance of the overall objectives of the programme.

In addition to joining GI ACE, you will benefit from a welcoming and friendly team atmosphere, working with colleagues across the programme, the School of Law, Politics and Sociology, the Centre for the Study of Corruption, and the wider Sussex community.

About you

Ideally, you will have a degree in a relevant subject, or significant relevant experience. You will have the skills to manage your own workload and, as needed, support other colleagues. You will communicate clearly with the team, line management, and stakeholders.

Demonstrable understanding of the fields of corruption and anti-corruption practice, and/or expertise and experience in researching instances of post-state capture reform in Eastern and South-Eastern Europe, the Caucasus, Central Asia, or Latin America would be a significant advantage.

About our School

The Governance & Integrity Anti-Corruption Evidence (GI ACE) programme is funded by the UK Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO). The programme supports world-class multi-disciplinary research to inform the development of more effective policies and interventions that will help reduce corruption in developing countries and address its negative impact on people's lives.

GI ACE is one component of the broader Anti-Corruption Evidence Programme funded by the UK government, with two sister programmes: the University of Birmingham-led Serious Organised Crime and Anti-Corruption Evidence (SOC-ACE) and the SOAS, University of London-led Anti-Corruption research consortium (SOAS-ACE).

GI ACE is designed to produce new and operationally relevant evidence on tackling corruption, with a focus on ensuring that the research outputs support more effective, evidence-based anti-corruption initiatives by FCDO and its partners in priority countries and beyond.

GI ACE is managed by the Centre for the Study of Corruption (CSC) which is based in the School of Law, Politics and Sociology (LPS)
