Sessional Short Breaks Worker – Hackney (N4, N16, E9, E5)

Employer: Kids

Location: Hackney

Hours: Flexible sessional hours – approximately 5–10 hours per week

Pay: £13.85 per hour (£15.52 with holiday pay)

Are you caring, enthusiastic, and passionate about supporting disabled children, young people, and their families? If you're looking for a rewarding part-time role that fits around your other commitments, join Kids as a Short Breaks Worker. With flexible hours during evenings, weekends, and school holidays, you'll be making a meaningful difference every day.

As a Short Breaks Worker, you'll provide 1:1 support for disabled children and young people, offering short breaks either in their home or out in the community. Each session is tailored to the individual's interests and goals — you might be visiting a park, soft play centre, museum, or swimming pool, or enjoying activities like cycling or shopping.

Your role will be to promote independence, inclusion, and learning through person-centred support, while providing both practical and emotional assistance to help children achieve the outcomes set out in their support plan.

This is a sessional position with flexible hours during weekends and school holidays. Services operate in several areas, including Hackney and Waltham Forest.

Personal Qualities

We're looking for caring, enthusiastic, and reliable individuals to support disabled children and young people on a one-to-one basis within the London Borough of Hackney.

What You'll Need

  • Experience working with disabled children is helpful but not essential.
  • An understanding of the needs of disabled children and young people, and a strong commitment to safeguarding.
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to adapt your approach to suit each individual.
  • The confidence to work independently and use your initiative.
  • Availability to work regular evenings and weekends.
  • Enthusiasm, motivation, and a genuine desire to make a difference.
  • A childcare qualification (NVQ or equivalent), paediatric first aid certificate, or moving and handling training would be advantageous.

Why Join Us?

At Kids, every session is an opportunity to make a child smile, help them grow, and support their family. You'll gain valuable experience, work with a supportive and passionate team, and see firsthand the impact of your care and creativity.

Be part of something that matters. Bring your energy, compassion, and imagination — and help us create brighter futures for children and young people in Hackney. Apply today
