JOB PURPOSE
The Connectivity Platform Engineering Specialist is contributing to the seamless delivery of all IT services for the Connectivity Platform. This role designs, builds, tests and scales services. It is heavily involved in design and implementation activities that result in new or improved I&O capabilities, and it brings skills and expertise to such areas as automating tasks (e.g., cloud, network, etc.), provisioning and configuration management; and other aspects involved in preparing and optimising I&O solutions.
The Platform Engineering Specialist collaborates closely with Platform Architects, product/platform teams, security, and network specialists, as well as other roles, particularly those in the infrastructure and operations. Being an approachable team-player is therefore crucial for success. The Platform Engineer is expected to demonstrate strong attention to detail and a customer-centric mindset.
The role is fundamental for ensuring stable, performant, and secure I&O Platforms which form easyJet's technological backbone.
JOB ACCOUNTABILITIES
The Platform Engineering Specialist is working within the I&O Platforms team and is assigned to the Connectivity Platform. The role reports to the Platform Lead.
The Platform Engineering Specialist is responsible for different areas within their assigned Platform. The key activities are specified below:
Engineering
• Designing solutions based on stakeholder requirements
• Platform engineering and configuration
• Overseeing version and patch release and deployment
• Provide technical expertise as part of the Platform maintenance, support and troubleshooting activities.
Architecture
• Security & Compliance By Design - Resolving any potential security threats and vulnerabilities risks identified in risk assessments in collaboration with easyJet InfoSec team.
• System Optimisation & Improvement
• Evaluating technologies in terms of scalability, fit to current and future needs, interoperability and security and compliance aspects.
Strategy & Planning
• Contributing to the creation and execution of an end-to-end automation strategy for I&O Platforms; streamlining operations and automate repetitive tasks and establish self-correcting mechanisms to minimise manual interventions and increase the value for money.
KEY SKILLS REQUIRED
CORE SKILLS
• Proficiency in designing scalable and reliable technology Platforms, including knowledge of system components, architecture patterns, and integration techniques.
• Demonstrable ability to manage and continuously improve infrastructure components such as servers, databases, cloud services, network and storage systems.
• Experience in IT service management (ITSM) and Information Technology Infrastructure Library (ITIL).
• Demonstrable experience of agile development methodologies (such as Scrum/Sprints).
• Strong scripting skills (e.g., Terraform, Python, PowerShell) to automate repetitive tasks, streamline workflows, and improve operational efficiency.
• Experience with cloud and cloud platforms (e.g., AWS, Azure, Google Cloud) and cloud services to design, deploy, and manage cloud-based infrastructure.
• Knowledge of virtualisation technologies (e.g., VMware, Hyper-V) and containerisation tools (e.g., Docker, Kubernetes) for efficient resource utilisation and deployment.
• Experienced in managing and delivering through third-party suppliers, focusing on business outcomes.
SPECIFIC PLATFORM SKILLS
Key tech skills for Connectivity:
• Strong experience in Cisco access, routing and core technologies
• Experience with SDWAN and Cisco Meraki core technology
• Knowledge of Zero trust technology
• Experience of dynamic routing
• Experience of WAN technologies
• Strong experience of VPN troubleshooting and creation
• Experience of multi-vendor firewall environments
• Experience in implementation of network access controls
• Knowledge of AWS architecture including deployment virtual Palo Alto, Lambda scripts and CloudWatch
