This role requires deep technical expertise in Azure infrastructure, virtualisation, automation and governance, combined with strong understanding of security and compliance requirements in the financial sector.
Your role is part of the Information Technology function and as such, will work closely with enterprise architecture, cybersecurity, network and operations teams to deliver a secure, performant and cost optimised Azure environment aligned with the business and regulatory needs.
About you
Your experience
- Extensive experience in infrastructure engineering and in particular a very strong background in working with Azure Cloud environments.
- Proven track record in migrating VMware environments to Azure using Azure Migrate, ASR or HCX.
- Deep understanding of Azure IaaS, networking (VNETs, ExpressRoute, NSGs, Firewall) and storage solutions.
- Strong hands-on experience with Terraform and/or Bicep and Azure DevOps.
- Knowledge of Azure governance, cost optimisation and security best practices.
- Familiarity with Windows Server and Linux administration in hybrid environments.
- Experience working in regulated financial services environments (asset management, banking, insurance).
- Having a flexible approach to working hours to effectively accomplish urgent and ad hoc tasks, as they arise, is essential.
Desirable
- Experience with Kubernetes (AKS), Docker, App Services or serverless functions.
- Familiarity with FinOps practices and Azure cost management.
- Exposure to Zero Trust Architecture and cloud-native security tooling (Defender for Cloud).
- Microsoft certification such as AZ-104 with AZ-305 or AZ-700.
- Experience with disaster recovery and business continuity planning in Azure.
Your skills
- Possess initiative and a 'can do' attitude with strong interpersonal skills, ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in written form.
- Ability to work as a team member using own initiative while ensuring a high degree of accuracy, attention to detail, and taking responsibility for the quality of output.
- Flexible and adaptable, ability to manage work within a changing environment.
- Self-motivated with effective time management and prioritisation skills.
Your day-to-day
Cloud Migration and Implementation
- Lead the end-to-end migration of VMware based infrastructure to Microsoft Azure using tools such as Azure Migrate, HCX or ASR.
- Develop migration strategies for lift and shift, re-platforming and modernisation of applications.
- Assess existing on-prem environments and define appropriate Azure landing zone architecture.
- Ensure seamless integration with on-premises systems, Active Directory and network infrastructure.
Cloud Architecture and Engineering
- Design and deploy scalable, secure and compliant Azure infrastructure, including compute, storage, networking and PaaS services.
- Implement Azure governance and policy frameworks (RBAC, resource tagging, management groups, Blueprints).
- Design and maintain infrastructure as code (IaC) using Terraform or Bicep.
- Configure and optimise Azure Monitor, Log Analytics and Application Insights for observability and operational excellence.
Security and Compliance
- Implement Azure security controls in line with and our internal risk frameworks.
- Work with security teams to enforce identity and access management, data encryption and network security baselines.
- Participate in cloud security assessments and ensure continuous compliance with regulatory requirements.
Operations and Automation
- Develop and maintain CI/CD pipelines for infrastructure deployments using Azure DevOps.
- Automate operational processes, patching and configuration management, using PowerShell or Azure Automation (or Ansible).
- Provide Level 5 technical support for Azure infrastructure and participate in incident response.
- Optimise cost management and resource utilisation across cloud workloads.
Collaboration and Leadership
- Act as a subject matter expert (SME) on Azure and cloud migration initiatives.
- Mentor engineers and support knowledge sharing across the cloud and infrastructure teams.
- Collaborate with application owners, data teams and cybersecurity to ensure business continuity during migration.
- Prepare and present technical documentation, architecture diagrams and progress reports for stakeholders.
