The Thelmas is seeking an experienced, strategic, and forward-thinking Executive Director to join us from mid-January 2026 as we step into an exciting new chapter.
The Executive Director role at is a senior leadership position responsible for driving the company's strategic, financial, and operational development during a significant period of growth; preparing the company for a National Portfolio Organisation (NPO) application, and ensuring long-term financial sustainability.
This is a unique opportunity for a decisive, collaborative, and financially astute individual to help shape the future of The Thelmas. The ideal candidate will be excited by the possibilities of growth and transformation, commercially aware, and deeply committed to our artistic vision and desired impact.
Working closely with the current directors, the Executive Director will develop and deliver business planning, financial strategy, income generation, and governance frameworks, focusing on:
-Leading fundraising activity, cultivating relationships with funders, partners, and commissioners, and managing bids, applications, and reporting processes
-Comprehensive financial oversight: creating budgets, forecasts, and management accounts, ensuring solvency, and guiding year-end accounts and Theatre Tax Relief submissions
-Establish effective organisational systems and governance structures, ensuring compliance with all statutory, legal, and policy requirements such as CIC reporting, Companies House, GDPR, Health & Safety, Safeguarding, and Employment Law
-Partnership development, ensuring strategic alignment with the artistic vision
The Executive Director will champion The Thelmas' core commitments to anti-racism, access, inclusion, and environmental responsibility.
£31,250 flat fee for 12 month period on a freelance contract. There will be a probation period of 3 months and a view to extend or amend the contract after the initial 12 months.
