What do these three things have to do with commodities trading? Well, nothing on on the face of it. However, they are three of the biggest TV moments in UK electricity history according to

If you had have used your data science skills to forecast and predict these surges in energy usage, you'd be a pretty rich person. You'll have the opportunity here to look at all aspects of forecasting energy and power prices, usage and more and potentially predict this next power surge.

Of course, energy prices and commodity prices in general aren't just based on TV usage. The weather could make a difference. When it's cold, more people use their heating. On Christmas Day a lot more people are likely use their kitchen appliances. These surges in usage are almost obvious, but what about the more subtle changes? Can you model them?

You'll be coming in here to look at various charts based on energy with the task of coming up with ideas and strategy to trade energy and make money from those trades. You'll have all kinds of data to work with, but your primary goal will be to think "something there looks wrong, how can I fix that?".

If you fix the right problem and help with a successful strategy, the returns this desk make can be huge. If the desk does well, your bonus will be extremely good. We can't give you an exact figure, but in some cases it could be as much as, or more than your salary.

How will you be a good fit?

You'll need to have been a data scientist or analyst in a commercial setting and have a track record of building models and optimising them. Time series forecasting experience is also required. This doesn't have to be in energy trading, but you'll need to be able to show how your experience is relevant. It'll also be very likely that you're from a strong STEM background.

You're going to be joining a firm focused on innovating within the energy markets. Sustainability is also at the heart of the business, so any strategies built always have energy regeneration at the heart of them. Starting salary will be up to £100,000 and you'll also have access to a range of benefits, including performance related bonuses.
