*About The Role
About the Role and our Ideal Candidate*

  • Teach English Functional Skills (L1/L2).
  • Prepare and assess learners for the Speaking, Listening and Conversation exam.
  • Prepare learners for the Reading and Writing exams.
  • Track learners' progress.
  • Help learners to complete their learning records.

*About You*
Kingston Adult Education is looking to appoint an enthusiastic and experienced English Functional Skills tutor to teach at least one Functional Skills course to groups of adult (19+) learners. The successful candidate will hold a relevant teaching qualification (level 3 - ideally level 5 - and above), be able to work independently whilst still being part of a supportive team and be able to collaborate with colleagues. Basic IT knowledge is also desired as some of our courses are hybrid. At least one year's experience is required.

Kingston Adult Education is looking to appoint an enthusiastic and experienced English Functional Skills tutor to teach at least one Functional Skills course to groups of adult (19+) learners. Due to increasing learner demand for Functional Skills and expansion of the Essential Skills area, we have at least one course to offer to the right candidate, starting from February 2026.

You will be joining our vibrant team of fantastic teachers and will be given a full induction to working at KAE. As well as this, there are regular training sessions and CPD opportunities available throughout the year to help our teachers continually develop their teaching skills.

English Functional Skills courses typically run throughout the academic year (September to February and February to July). Our standard courses have 3 hours of contact time per week. We need a tutor to deliver our new Functional Skills evening course with the possibility of doing some more hours in the day time.
