About the role
Balfour Beatty is seeking a Regional Operations Manager to join its Rail Plant team, based in Tonbridge.
This pivotal role involves overseeing the workforce, operational activities, and systems within a designated region. The successful candidate will ensure that machinery is operated safely, efficiently, and profitably, while meeting customer expectations through a fully skilled and competent team of drivers and operators.
What you'll be doing
As Regional Operations Manager you will have the following responsibilities:
- Manage the day to day operation of the machines within the region;
- Develop driver operators to have dual competence;
- Manage the customer relationship, including attending customer meetings;
- Monitor the reliability, productivity and performance of machines. Put measures in place to drive efficiency and improve performance;
- Undertake accident/incident investigations when they arise and ensure the appropriate action is taken to address issues and minimise future risks;
- Produce method statements and risk assessments for work to be undertaken;
- Manage the teams, with responsibility for recruitment, identifying training and development, motivating and retaining, and resolving employee relations issues;
- Ensure competence assessments are carried out on time and are of good quality;
- Ensure all shifts are suitably crewed with enough advance planning and rosters are accurately and effectively compiled;
- Ensure that there is an effective communication process with employees and that they are briefed as required. Work alongside the regional colleagues in coordinating cross function communication;
- Review OTM operational policies and procedures, ensure issues are highlighted and addressed;
- Participate in the development, production and review of the Company's OTM;
- Proactively drive a culture of safety compliance and behaviour amongst the team;
- Work closely with the EH&S team to raise safety issues and support safety initiatives;
- Provide information and reports to the Senior Management Team;
- Participate in the planning of annual maintenance for machines within the region;
- Oversee financial management of the region.
Who we're looking for
The following skills and experience are required:
- Experience in a management role.
- Computer literate.
- Trained in Emergency First Aid;
- Fire Safety;
- Experience conducting Risk Assessment;
